Here at the Jersey Shore we don't have any "Purple Mountain Majesty" but we do have some majestic lavender sunrises!
Last week I had a lot of fun hanging out with White Ibis on the beach in Florida experimenting with motion blur to create a different feel.
An American Avocet feeds in the Great Salt Lake early one April morning. This was such a beautiful and peaceful morning with the snow capped mountains in the background. I really need to get back there!
Tidal Pools & Sandbars
This is a photo of a beach at low tide. In the center, a shorebird stands in a tidal pool. It appears to be a willet.

On the last day of our workshop in Utah this past spring, the sunset was absolutely amazing and the sky was on fire. I love the flow of the composition and how the clouds frame the Avocet. April 2024.
I had a blast with shorebirds this fall! The variations of light, perspective and background I was able to get were incredible. This Sanderling is posing in front of a group of Dunlin roosting in the distance as the sun rose and cast its beautiful golden light.
Normally I don't go for flat light with shorebirds, but that in combination with super clean surroundings makes for a pretty shot I think. Sanderling at sunset, October 2024.
A Sanderling on the beach at sunrise on a foggy morning in New Jersey. I really love the sea foam and seaweed in this!
A pair of American Avocets dance in the Great Salt Lake on a beautiful April morning.
(#cormorant not eagle) (where's the #shorebird emoji??!)
It's amazing how the light changes from season to season. I love the light I get during winter at this location and am looking forward to seeing it again soon. But, let's not rush this beautiful autumn weather we are having. Dunlin from an early winter's morning in 2023.

A Varied Oystercatcher, so named because they're not always black apparently.
One of a pair that was casually standing around in the carpark at Taiaroa Head, on the Otago Peninsula, Dunedin.
Cavorting … this juvenile Reddish Egret danced, leapt in the air, and dashed about, frequently with its wings raised. Rare in the state where we were vacationing, let alone where we live a couple of states to the north, this entertaining lifer is one the best birds I’ve had the joy of seeing.

Whilst #migration continues across the #14km divide of The #Straits today some #Birds are arriving at las marismas to winter like this Audouin’s Gull, others just passing through like this Mediterranean #Gull and some yet to leave like this Iberian Yellow Wagtail !
#Shorebird migration is now evident with the first Black-tailed Godwits, Little #Stints and #Dunlin passing through!
….and very noisy juvenile Black-winged Stilts
