So,I *took* the photos on #MonochromeMonday lol..I hadn't checked on #aspen #catkins for a couple of weeks- just emerging last time I looked; I knew the cool/snowy weather we had would keep them in suspended animation. It's been warmer for the last week though, a few days into the mid teens C/ even near 20C/68F, so I wondered if they'd matured. Nope! Farther along but still not fully extended/open.. soon though..

🧵 1 Here we are, more or less halfway between Winter Solstice + Spring Equinox! (Thanks to @mirabilos I've recently learned more about the calculation of #CrossQuarter Days: it's not so straightforward!)
Anyway, for me a general idea of mid-way works- I'll make my natural observations over several days anyway, and if I have time/ energy for ritual, it will depend on work/weather!

I was privileged over a week or so to see this beautiful #owl ! It's not uncommon for me to see owl pellets or signs of them hunting on the snow (wing marks etc) but I don't often (not even every year) see the actual birds! This one I saw 3 times over a week or so, all the decent shots +vid from one of those times.

Before I forget, tomorrow is the release day for my new album! It's also #BandcampFriday! Please have a listen. We made a really lovely CD edition.

"An improvising trio since 2023, Wilson Shook, Kevin Corcoran, and Aine Nakamura create a atmosphere of heightened concentration, restraint, and purposeful recontextualization of sounds, affects, and relationships with each other and with a particular moment in the world. There is an oblique lyricism, and a non-programmatic #ritual intensity to the work, which evokes #Butoh, #DeepListening, #Artaud's Theater of Cruelty, and a sort of #animist #ecomusicology. Procession, while an ultimately incomplete document of a practice that is multi-sensory, experiential, and site-specific, nevertheless presents a compelling point of entry into the trio's artistic world."

I was heading back out into the bush to get my last load of firewood for the day, a few days back, just around sunset on a gloomy day. This little #ForestSpirit crossed my path, and I took a few minutes to follow it as it flew from tree to tree. I never got much of a view, and no good photos, but it was still fun to see. Greetings.

Here's a little #introduction. I want to stay connected, but I'm getting sick of ads, algorithms, and other hazards of more conventional social media, so I'm trying out Mastodon.

I was born in the early 80s. I have lived in the US states of #Louisiana, #Georgia, and #Kentucky. I have a bachelor's degree in English.

I'm a #pagan, #polytheist, and #animist devoted primarily to a few Greek and Egyptian deities. I'm a #Dionysian. My practice includes daily #meditation, devotional activities to various deities and spirits, finding modern ways to celebrate ancient holidays, and ancestor work, among other things.

I also enjoy #drawing, #painting, #flowarts, #hiking, #reading, #writing, watching #movies, and #gaming in my spare time.

Some other interests include #animation, #anthropology, #buddhism, #divination, #folklore, #history, #linguistics, #literature, #music, #mythology, #psychology, #puppetry, #religion, and #theatre.

This book is fascinating. I'm only about 60 pages in, so it's too early for an in-depth analysis, but I'm pleasantly surprised at how good the narrative quality and information overall is. It doesn't read in the least like a scientific thesis, but a story.

I'm not yet certain how to describe why these two things are connected in my mind, but I found (or rather, it found me) the most incredible gigantic scorpion yesterday evening. It's been living, apparently, in the decking by our outdoor bathtub where it has grown Amazon sized: close to four inches long as opposed to the usual half inch of the largest one's I've seen so far. I believe it's a striped bark scorpion, a neurotoxic creature that is definitely a risk. I've crushed small ones in the past that make their way to my patio, but I could not bring myself to claim any kind of dominance over this one. So long as it stays under the decking and comes out for water and to hunt, I'm happy coexisting. It feels like the physical manifestation of the scorpion I've been seeing in my visions, and I wonder what I am to be learning from them. They feel like centipedes, these liminal and deadly creatures, and this book is bringing up all kinds of thoughts pertaining to the nature of wisdom that my rigorously scientific friends (the few I have) scoff at me for mentioning but that people have understood before we taught them not to.

#ArtAdventCalendar Day 18 but I'm posting #December 21 so Blessed and Happy Solstice to all! This date is what all the mid-winter holy days/festivals are really about in the Northern Hemisphere - Sun has reached the maximum of her southward journey, and will begin the slow return. We celebrate the anticipated return of #light but also should take some time to reflect on the darkness: #sleep #blood #soil #death #regeneration #SeasonalRhythms #pagan #animist
Happy mid-summer to Southern friends!

#ArtAdventCalendar Day 11 #LeafMother has left some colour from Autumn (months ago!) hanging bright against the #snow with a drop of frozen #rain and inscribed with cryptic insect prayers to the #GreatMother #Goddess! and Day 12 #Saule #Sun is nearly at the maximum of her turn to the south, yet her rays still brighten #Winter days, even if the warmth is mostly in our hearts! #Alberta #December #BorealForest #WinterPictures #CountryLiving #animist #Latvian
