All of this material was produced & distributed by the office of communications at the #EuniceKennedyShriver National Institute of #Child #Health & Human Development. #Shriver was the aunt of current *Health* Secy #RFKJr. …That entire department was terminated on April 1. Dr. Moon's contact at the office emailed her to share the news.

"They sent an email saying 'just wanted to let you know that since the office has been terminated, so has #SafeToSleep.' And that was it.”

The toddler, Maikelys Antonella Espinoza Bernal, remains in #FosterCare in the #US, acc/to the #DHS. Ofcls said in a statement that the #child was removed from her parents & from the manifest of her mother’s #deportation plane for her own “safety & welfare.” [?]

The #Trump admin claims the girl’s parents are members of Tren de Aragua, a Venezuelan gang, but it has not offered evidence to back this up.

But in a petition filed by the #child’s custodian, Trish Mack, on Thurs, her father claimed that when he spoke briefly w/Ms. Lopez Villela, he could hear her & the #children crying. The father reminded her, the petition said, that “their daughter was a #UScitizen & could not be deported.”

The father, who was not identified by name in the petition, tried to give Ms. Lopez Villela the phone number for a lawyer, but he claims that officials cut short the call.

“The government contends that this is all OK because the mother wishes that the #child be deported with her,” wrote Judge Doughty, a conservative #Trump appointee. “But the court doesn’t know that.”

Asserting that “it is #illegal & #unconstitutional to deport” a #UScitizen, Judge Doughty set a hearing for May 16 to explore his “strong suspicion that the government just deported a U.S. citizen with no meaningful process.”

Doughty questioned why the #Trump admin had sent the #child — known in court papers only as V.M.L. — to Honduras with her mother even though her father had sought in an emergency petition on Thurs to stop the girl from being sent abroad.

…Mrs. Sullivan [was ordered] to wear an ankle monitor while on bail, Donald Therkildsen, an atty representing the state, told the court that when he met w/the victim, “his first question was, ‘Why is she out walking around while I was locked up in a room for 20 yrs?’”

As he heals, the city is grappling w/the failure of the authorities who were entrusted to help him. And another, more troubling question persists: How could this have happened to a #child that so many people were so worried about?

Many reports that may have documented these calls have since been lost, but what records remain show that responding *authorities* determined the boy was doing OK.🤬

After a while, w/o turning up any evidence of #abuse, the calls stopped coming. In fact, until the fire, the last recorded police visit concerning the boy on Blake Street was April 18, 2005, in response to a call placed by his own father.… to complain that he was being harassed by people continually checking up on his #child.
