Remembering Korchnoi.

Shout out to Viktor Korchnoi who would have turned 94 today and which is considered to be the strongest player never becoming world champion (although he is the only player to have won or drawn—in individual game(s)—against every reigning World Chess Champion.

Still have fond memories of when I played my strongest opponent in a #simul in #Ostend, #Belgium in 2004. Needless to say, I lost gracefully. That day, already well into his seventies, he didn’t loose one game (IIRC 38 - 2 - 0!)

I saw this buzzard sitting there in the afternoon when the sun was already down. It really annoyed me because it was just too dark for a good photo. The next day I was even happier when it sat in the same place again while it was looking for mice. Because it wanted to catch them, it looked as if it had been having fun in the snow😄 It’s always nice to see these animals up close, especially because I’ve never been anywhere near that close to a buzzard in my city🥹

🇺🇸: The common buzzard (Buteo buteo) is a bird of prey from the Accipitridae family and the most common representative of this family in Central Europe. The common buzzard’s distribution area covers all of Europe, with the exception of islands and northern Scandinavia. The common buzzard is a medium-sized, compact bird of prey. It is 51 to 57 centimetres long and has a wingspan of 113 to 128 centimetres. Adult males in Germany weigh an average of 790 g (622 to 1183 g in general), and females weigh an average of 990 g. The common buzzard lives mainly in small forest areas with adjacent, open landscapes, where it almost exclusively searches for food.

East Harbor Bridge Frankfurt - Commute - Osthafenbrücke Frankfurt - Pendeln

I tried to make a virtue out of necessity when taking the photo. On that day, I had set myself the task of photographing only with a 40mm fixed focal length. This was an unusual focal length range for me and, due to the lack of zoom, I had to constantly work my way through the scene and engage with the location more than usual.

At the end of this process, it was clear to me that I would no longer try to hide the bridge construction, but integrate it as a layer in the picture (the diagonal steel bands). this seems logical to me, as the striking bridge strongly characterizes the entire area through its architecture/construction and gives it a face.

as my pictures are usually quite reduced in content, i found it a bit difficult to like it at first. now i love it very much because of the different layers and my eye doesn't get bored exploring the scene. maybe your eye will enjoy it too.

nature stages itself. two trees and a crow posing in the fog. i just had to press the shutter. one of those magical moments i was allowed to be a guest of. have a satisfied sunday out there. maybe in nature. never a bad investment, that's the experience of my melancholy soul.
