Gossip (1885) by English painter John William Waterhouse (1849-1917). The second half of the 1880s witnessed Waterhouse's most intense interest in landscape and outdoor genre subjects, and his fascination with effects of natural light. The observation of the wall, the foliage and the moss-covered yard is meticulous and highly accomplished, whilst the gestures of the figures are convincing and sensitively studied.

Olé Bokeh

So once again I was standing in front of one of my favorite motifs. My good old lonetrees. Just as the little protagonist in “The Sixth Sense” saw ghosts everywhere, I see these woody creatures everywhere. Well, you have to have some kind of talent.

Recently I've been thinking in color and so the squeaky yellow rape field was a welcome stage and the cloudy blue sky a welcome curtain. So I dived into the viewfinder and . . .

“Wait! Before you go back to exclusively reeling off your classic lonetree compositions, why don't you play with a bit with Bokeh! Ok. I'll give it a try and . . .“

And what can I say. This and other results bring a smile to my face. Maybe you'll like it too.

#Trump is proposing a >$4.5B cut to the #Agriculture Dept, about a 17% trim from its #budget for fiscal year 2025. Programs facing the steepest cuts include #farm conservation programs & #rural development that the admin argues is redundant & #research that it characterizes as “woke.”

The budget includes a $15M increase for #food inspection, but interestingly does not include cuts to #FoodStamps —which will likely be a point of contention in #Congress.

In many similar struggles that have unfolded in recent years across Central #Texas, protection of creeks and rivers from treated wastewater discharge falls to shoestring community groups as an onslaught of population growth and development pushes ever deeper into the countryside. texasobserver.org/central-texa

The Texas Observer · In Booming Central Texas, Wastewater Is Polluting Rivers and StreamsA bill in the Texas Legislature would protect the last 21 pristine watersheds. But for years, previous attempts have been defeated by powerful homebuilders.

Porque we have to fend for ourselves here.
