A follow-up re this. I’d been asked if the NRS had reference lists for the R numeric codes written on the index cards for Scottish land girls identifying the farms they worked at. Sadly I’ve heard back today from the head of the NRS Historical Search Room that the answer is no. Sometimes the farm name is written on the index card, but if not, and it’s just recorded as a R number, I’m afraid the farm can’t be identified now. #WW2 #Scotland #agriculture
