Today I helped to run a chess holiday program for kids in Launceston, Tasmania. It was so successful that the junior coordinator of chess sent me an SMS after.

"I just wanted to say a massive thanks to you about today and the whole term in general. I really really appreciate everything you are doing up North and in Devonport and I hope you are having fun doing so much!

Tassie chess has gone out of sight since you have come down and I am very thankful for that."

Great to be appreciated 🙂.

I know Jess Teesdale and she is a lovely person. I hope that the world of Party Politics doesn't tarnish her too much. But this is an ominous start. Good on her for being against native logging in her heart.

ABC News · Federal Labor candidate for Bass Jess Teesdale walks back support of end to native forestryBy Bec Pridham

Our politicians keep telling us what we want or don't want, but when it comes down to it, most people know that cities need to be more green.

Good for you, Hobart, following similar recent stories in Paris and Vancouver.

Pulse Tasmania · Public meeting votes down motion to halt Collins Street bike lanesBy Pulse Tasmania

The Tasmanian Chess Championship concluded today with 18 year old Will Rumley from Hobart becoming the 2025 Champion. I had to settle for equal 4th after a bad day yesterday.

The tournament ran smoothly, and everyone seemed happy with the event and the beautiful host town of Deloraine.

The event was covered by Seven News Tasmania and ABC Hobart

Day two of the Tasmanian Chess Championship was a long one with three games. I played well below par, took too many risks, and lost two games to put me out of the running for the title this year.

A minor division took place with 11 players. Darvin Hansen, who I coach a bit, won the event. Hopefully this tournament will grow in years to come as we see more people wanting to join chess tournaments but not having to play very tough opponents over three gruelling days.

First day of the Tasmanian Chess Championship was good.

We had a small tournament for women and girls, seeing it is International Women's Day.

Then the Championship started with two rounds today and a minor division with three rounds.

The Championship is being held in Deloraine for the first time in its history, and the combined number of players in both divisions makes this event the biggest in terms of participation.

I started with two wins, but tomorrow will see a big sorting out as the top seeds will likely all meet.

Tomorrow I am playing in the Tasmanian Chess Championship which is being held in the picturesque northern town of Deloraine. I'm the defending champion, but this year I'm the main organiser which could eat into my energy.

Anyway, it's good to be competing again 🙂
