Funny enough, it affects both #pip and #installer. Long story short, the include install path uses "distribution name", and in both cases the distribution name is apparently taken from the filename. Not sure if this is a bug or a feature, but I guess i'll file bugs. Installer even has a TODO item to determine whether they should be using original or normalized name.

What prompted me to do this is that the recent change in setuptools where wheel filenames started being normalized, domino-style broke installing PyCXX package, as headers started being installed into lowercase cxx directory rather than uppercase CXX as the reverse dependencies expect. FreeBSD 14.2-RELEASE is officially recommended for new installations.

If you perform a new installation, I do recommend the switch to pkgbase – before exiting the installer for the operating system.

The switch is not difficult, now – and will become easier with future releases.

Your emphasis should be to minimise the traditional steps – in particular, do not rush to add a user. Things such as addition are, instead, easily performed after first boot of the installed system.

Packaging of the OS became official more than a year ago; packages are maintained by the Primary Release Engineering Team; freebsd-update is an axe candidate for 15.0; and so on.

I'm disappointed with Dell & Brother.

I have a Brother multifunction laser #printer, rebadged as Dell. It works fine, except printing from #Android inverses black and white.
#Dell & #Brother have released #firmware updates to fix the #bug.
But you must have a #Windows machine to install it. Not because of the firmware, but because the firmware #installer routine is hidden in 2 .exe files, and I think they check for windows drivers.

Why not publish #OS independent files to upload via FTP?
