Did a #BirdlifeAustralia #AussieBirdCount just now. I know exactly what they're trying to do to me. Sitting on a park bench in the shade, watching the skies and listening to the birdsong, trying to work out if it's a noisy miner or a common myna, and thinking, maybe I should get some binoculars... That's how it starts, people! Be on your guard!
Also the birdcount ap needs some work, see pix
I don't love how precise the sightings map on the #AussieBirdCount app is.
It's not identifying anyone, but I feel bad for the person that lives at Number 11 two streets away that now has it on public record that they think they saw a Forest Raven in Templestowe, VIC
It’s that time of year again – the Aussie Bird Count!
Each year, from October 14–20, BirdLife Australia hosts Australia’s biggest birdwatching and citizen science event – and you’re invited to get involved!
Taking part is easy; register on the Birdlife Australia website, spend 20 minutes in your favourite outdoor space, and submit a list of the birds you see during that time! You can participate as many times as you want during the event, so be sure to get started now… https://aussiebirdcount.org.au

Just five days until the Aussie Bird Count starts. https://aussiebirdcount.org.au #AussieBirdCount
Aussie Bird Count doesn’t start officially for 10 days, but you can begin if you want. My count just now was particularly fruitful. #AussieBirdCount
This year’s Aussie Bird Count is 14–20 October. https://aussiebirdcount.org.au/ #AussieBirdCount
I’ll be travelling in Queensland then, so even if I find the time I probably won’t even recognise most of the birds.

Help shine a light on Aussie birds and the Australians who love them.
Just registered for the Aussie Bird Count: https://aussiebirdcount.org.au/
I would recommend everyone here in Australia to consider it. There are some great prices up for grabs, and birding is probably one of the most relaxing activities I can think of.
Baby Butcherbird did a full 20-minute vocal adult workout this afternoon. Up til now, it's been all baby noises but today it was time to grow up.
Note the King Parrot at the end completely ignoring the performance, just getting on with eating.
Here's just an excerpt.

For my birdwatching folks in Australia, if you have 20 minutes to spare between 16-22nd Oct why not participate in the Aussie Bird Count. More info at aussiebirdcount.org.au #AussieBirdCount #australia #birds #birdwatching
#AussieBirdCount this morning with my son. Better weather, and better turn out.
A bunch of Mynas again, but also a cheeky appearance from an Eastern Rosella in my neighbour's tree.
Magpie lark, some Little Ravens, Wattlebirds, Spotted Doves and Starlings also showed up.
The 10th Aussie Bird Count starts today!
16-22 October 2023

Would all birds please enter the counting area in single file, land, pause, stay still and wait until identified. If the counter incorrectly identifies you, please speak up.
The counter will let you know when you can move on.
Also please no looping back around and not announcing you have already been counted.
Flying around the perimeter is also prohibited.
If you could follow these rules, it would make counting much easier.
Thank you.
