#CamphouseFire north of Two Harbors, #Minnesota
Whole area is in a #RedFlagWarning.

Never ignore an order to evacuate. The fire officials have information that you do not.

Dark symbols are MODIS and VIIRS satellite *heat* detections. This data is not real time and locations are only approximate. Sometimes this data is ‘false positive’. You can learn more about MODIS/VIIRS data by opening the map and clicking “Map tips” in the upper left corner.

Whew, almost finished off 5 gallons of intumescent paint. Note: 5 gallons IS A LOT OF PAINT. Feels like I've been painting now for a few months. Painted all my siding, painted most of the eaves of the house (at ground level), painted my patio cover (mostly). The idea is to improve the wildfire survivability of the house. (hopefully, never tested, but cheap insurance).

Lessons so far: some quirks on how well you can top coat this stuff. Paint does not stick to it as much as you'd like.

Drying time is hard to measure.

Can't be tinted.

Sites with #radioactive material more vulnerable as #ClimateChange increases #wildfire, #flood risks

"As Texas wildfires burned toward the nation’s primary nuclear weapons facility, workers hurried to ensure nothing flammable was around buildings and storage areas.

"When the fires showed no sign of slowing, #Pantex Plant officials urgently called on local contractors, who arrived within minutes with bulldozers to dig trenches and enlarge fire breaks for the sprawling complex where nuclear weapons are assembled and disassembled and dangerous plutonium pits — hollow spheres that trigger nuclear warheads and bombs — are stored.

" 'The winds can pick up really (quickly) here and can move really fast,' said Jason Armstrong, the federal field office manager at Pantex, outside Amarillo, who was awake 40 hours straight monitoring the risks. Workers were sent home and the plant shut down when smoke began blanketing the site.

"Those fires in February — including the largest in Texas history — didn’t reach Pantex, though flames came within 3 miles (5 kilometers). And Armstrong says it’s highly unlikely that plutonium pits, stored in fire-resistant drums and shelters, would have been affected by wildfire.

"But the size and speed of the grassland fires, and Pantex’s urgent response, underscore how much is at stake as climate change stokes extreme heat and drought, longer fire seasons with larger, more intense blazes and supercharged rainstorms that can lead to catastrophic flooding. The Texas fire season often starts in February, but farther west it has yet to ramp up, and is usually worst in summer and fall."

"Wildfire panic in Jerusalem" [ ± 1-3 min]

Quote by MEE:
"May 1, 2025
Israeli settlers from illegal settlements were seen fleeing in panic along a highway near Jerusalem, as wildfires continued to spread across the region.
High temperatures and strong winds have fuelled the blazes, which have engulfed farmland and occupied areas on the outskirts of the city.
On social media, users drew comparisons between the scenes of settlers scrambling to escape and videos from Gaza, where Palestinian civilians are often seen fleeing the brutality of Israeli airstrikes."

Teen charged with allegedly starting massive #NewJersey #wildfire

By Jon Haworth and Bill Hutchinson Thursday, April 24, 2025

"A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of starting a massive New Jersey wildfire that has consumed 13,000 acres and continued to burn Thursday, authorities said.

"In a statement released Thursday morning, New Jersey officials including Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer, announced the arrest of Joseph Kling of Waretown, New Jersey, on charges of aggravated arson and arson in connection with the wildfire that started Tuesday morning.

"The fire was first spotted about 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday in the Greenwood Wildlife Management area near Waretown, New Jersey, officials said.

"Officials said investigators tracked the origin of the fire to Waretown.

"Further investigation has revealed that Kling was the individual responsible for setting wooden pallets on fire -- and then leaving the area without the fire being fully extinguished," officials said in the statement.

#Kling was taken into custody at Ocean Township Police Headquarters in Waretown, officials said.

"He was booked at the Ocean County Jail, where he is presently lodged pending a detention hearing.

"The #JonesRoadWildfire continued to burn on Thursday. The fire has burned at least 13,250 acres and is 50% contained, according to the Fire Service.

"Winds are expected to blow smoke into the New York City area.

"The fire is expected to grow as dry conditions, winds, and low humidity aid the aid the blaze's activity, according to the New Jersey Forest Fire Service."
