In the Book 1, Part 1, Chapter 5 the authors explicitly cite Filofei, a 15th-century Russian Orthodox monk and theologian, during the reign of Ivan IV the Terrible, who was best known for his concept of “Moscow as the 3rd Rome”, which the authors state:
“Defined Russia’s behavior, seeing itself as the heir of Byzantium and the guardian of world Christianity, under which it understood Orthodoxy.”
