"Innovations in Continuous Glucose Monitoring" website topic

This website has a wealth of information on continuous glucose monitors and insulin pumps, mined from information in patents. Some of the information is free and other parts are paywalled. The information has been edited into plainer English making it easier for someone who is not a patent attorney to understand.

Got my infusion site change supplies sitting in front of me but there's still a small amount of insulin in the pump and I don't want to waste it.

Granted, I probably wasted a lot more with the pens.

To other pump users: How much insulin do you typically waste to site changes?

So the Tandem Mobi is a multi thousand dollar kit. The pump only wirelessly charges. It comes with a charging pad.

The charging pad has a USB-C port but it’s USB 2 at best and does not support PD power sources.

Multi thousand dollar device that comes with the cheapest wireless charging pad.

It’s not anything special either. It’s not marked Qi but it’s a Qi pad. My iPhone will charge from it and the Mobi will charge from my various wireless charging pads.

The charging is apparently so fiddly, also, that people sell 3D printed brackets to ensure the mobi sits on the pad correctly.

I feel like Tandem could have actually designed a good charging system here but it seems like they just went to Alibaba, found the cheapest pad, and had it branded for them.

Funny enough, the size and shape of the mobi is such that it fits pretty well on my various AirPods charging pads, and will charge from this.

My insulin pump is ordered. My supplies are ordered.

I’ve been pretty hands off with this.

I have no idea what cost is going to come down to me. No one has communicated this to me. So I’m very concerned about this. I THINK I’m going to owe around $1600 to $2000 out of pocket.

I guess we’ll see over the next couple of days.

Hey, @shanselman! Nice chat with Dr. de Bock!

I bet you've heard about the #TheOtherPancreas #InsulinPump? It's a fair bit slimmer than the available #diyInsulinPump-s. Also I've asked the author to publish the files that he agreed to: github.com/TheOtherPancreas/Pu More images and descriptive text can be found at theotherpancreas.org/ It reads like a plug for a commercial product, but it is not. I've been thinking of building one but I tend to collect hobbies.

I read a pretty thorough review, by a trusted member of the diabetes discord I help moderate (she’s also a moderator), of the Betabionics iLet. I think I agree with her concerns over the “carb aware” and other vague setting aspects of it.

It’s attempting to remove as much focus on management as possible, and I get that. But it’s putting a ton of trust in it getting things right.

It also has some limitations that I’m not a fan of, though this review was late last year and software updates may have removed some of those limitations.

I think I want to still request more info and maybe a demo or something. But I’m not sure how that’s going to work using their online forms as none of the medical professionals I’ve worked with are available to select as a prescriber.

I think I could get used to the “carb aware” aspect, but I’d like to see if the limitations are addressed before jumping on it.
