#Trump, #Musk, #Putin, #Netanjahu, #Erdoğan, #Orban, #LePenn, and #Kickl are #populist #fascists. There, I said it publicly.

Many more western politicians have clear fascist, illiberal tendencies, including previous #FPÖVP chancellors and current governors (Austrian #federalism does not work any more and needs to be severely limited to get back to a functioning government).

[derstandard.at/story/300000002 is a good summary of some reasonable criteria for spotting #fascism, and diepresse.com/19301692/haben-w gives more insight into the Austrian variant. aaup.org/news/professors-are-n gives links to the current US government fight against academia.]

The result of this toot is probably that I _really_ shouldn't be traveling to the #US, #Israel, or #Turkey with their current governments. Luckily, I still dare write such statements publicly in Austria and the wider EU. If I really have to get into political trouble, then let it be because I denounce fascism and oppose the abuse of technology to build surveillance states driven by fear. I will not fight with violence, but I can and will fight it with words.

#US #intelligence contradicts #Trump’s justification for mass #deportations
[wait, what!?!?, but but but…are you saying that #felon47 LIED?????!!!!?!!?!?!?!!]

The determination is the most comprehensive assessment to date undercutting Trump’s rationale for deporting *suspected* *gang members* without #DueProcess.

#Trump: “The #states are just an agent of the #FederalGovernment

#FactCheck:

American #federalism divides power between the national & state govts.

It's literally the basis of the #UnitedStates’ system of government & he can even read about it on freaking Wikipedia.

Also, apparently #Republicans only believe in #StatesRghts when Democrats have power in the Executive or Legislative branches.

I recently read an excellent article by David Kauders FRSA arguing for federalism in UK political governance . ( RSA Journal 2nd quarter 2024 …I’m a slow reader .) Just because it was excellent doesn’t imply that I agree with his views .He was reflecting on what seems like a continual descent in respect for UK politics and politicians .

10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution
"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."

Executive Orders by a President over an individual state's water system are powerless. The U.S.A. is not a top-down unitary government. We have #Federalism in which states have great authority over their own affairs.

This drives me crazy.

When I post something like, “Here is what blue states can do at the state level to move forward on a policy issue, someone will whine, “You’re leaning people in red states behind!” as if we are all supposed to act like lobsters in a tank holding each other down.

We should be encouraging states to move forward on their own.Several programs of the New Deal were based on what was being successfully done by a state.

States can be a progressive laboratory.

Nearly all State Legislatures go into session in January.

Instead of just watching with horror as Trump and MAGA tear down the federal government, the time to get organized and plan a strategy to pass state laws, state regulations, and state versions of federal programs is now.
