In programming, we catch and repair an expected #RecoverableError, like when the user types in a wrong input. But we often have no choice but to throw our hands up in despair when we encounter an unexpected #FatalError, like when the server bursts into flames.

For almost 250 years, a software called the American #Democracy has been running 24×7 under an operating system called the American #Constitution on a parallel hardware called the #UnitedStates of America. Has this mission-critical system finally encountered a fatal error called the #Authoritarianism?

Unlike a typical mission-critical system, our Democracy has neither a backup copy, a fail-over site, nor a restoration procedure. A design flaw?

The justices will soon decide whether to relieve the #Trump admin from the trial court’s order halting the expulsions. Whether the govt has complied w/the order isn’t directly before #SCOTUS. But whether the Court can trust the govt’s representations during such quickly unfolding litigation is—& the justices have every reason not to.

The decision by US Dist Judge Michael Farbiarz in Newark, NJ, means any appeals in the #Palestinian #activist's case will be heard by the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals, which has a 6-6 split between active judges appointed by Republican & Democratic presidents, instead of the #5thCircuit, the country's most #conservative appeals court.
