A Line-by-Line Breakdown of #Trump’s #BirthrightCitizenship Executive Order

- #ElieMystal

Like a clogged sewer erupting into the streets, Donald Trump returned to office on Mon, &, as promised, unleashed his filth upon the country. In a flurry of #lawless, #unconstitutional, #racist, #bigoted, #violent, &, in some cases, plainly stupid #ExecutiveOrders & #pardons, Trump set his reign of #terror in motion. The future we feared has officially arrived.

The Nation · A Line-by-Line Breakdown of Trump’s Birthright Citizenship Executive OrderAlmost every sentence of the order is wrong, misleading, or flagrantly unconstitutional.

"But they [media] will cover a sitting Congressperson standing w/activists to prevent a bus full of immigrants from rolling across the border...differently. They will cover a bunch of Senators shuttling undocumented immigrants into National Cathedral & claiming “sanctuary” while daring Pam Bondi & Kristi Noem to shoot their way inside _like the national crisis it is_."

My second favorite thing about having a subscription to The Nation (#ElieMystal is #1) is how they promote art as part of a progressive future

I just signed up for their OppArtWeekly, a "curation of the best political artwork from the front lines of the resistance"

Not sure how much of it is outside their paywall, but I definitely find my subscription worth it

Want to know how bad the Supreme Court rulings really were this term?

#ElieMystal wrote an end-of-term analysis -- and it didn't even have jokes (ok, there was one kinda wordplay joke about Senate "traditions", but it was only funny because it's true)

>It’s Impossible to Overstate the Damage Done by the Supreme Court in This Term<

The Nation · It’s Impossible to Overstate the Damage Done by the Supreme Court in This TermThe effects of the high court’s rulings will be enduring and almost impossible to overturn without a serious reckoning by Democratic lawmakers.

This E Mystal piece on the US Supreme Court's murder of "Chevron" is nuclear 🌪️⚡ 🔥:

"That is a naked power grab that places the court ahead of literal experts chosen by the president, who is the one elected official we all get to vote for. Who do you think has a 'special competence' in resolving what the word 'clean' means in the context of the 'Clean Water' or 'Clean Air' act—experts at the EPA or justices on Harlan Crow’s yacht?"

The Nation · We Just Witnessed the Biggest Supreme Court Power Grab Since 1803The court has given itself nearly unlimited power over the administrative state, putting everything from environmental protections to workers’ rights at risk.

One thing I'd like to point out, however. In the examples cited by #ElieMystal, not once was the "challenger" a former US President; the object of #impeachment...twice; a president that had attempted a #coup; an #insurrectionist; a former president found liable for #Rape; a thief of #ClassifiedDocuments, who never returned said documents when government came a-calling; a former president indicted for #conspiracy.
