Reinforced concrete shows that people break engineering. The original promises about the lifespan of reinforced concrete assumed that the rebar was not allowed to oxidize before it was enclosed in concrete, but construction workers never got the memo about storing rebar somewhere dry and when you add salt water from road salt garages rot from the inside out. cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/publ #civilEngineering #errorBetweenKeyboardAndChair

CBCWitness spotted cracks evening before downtown parking garage collapsed | CBC NewsLine De Matteis was one of just a few people to notice the cracks in a downtown Ottawa parking garage before its top floor partially gave out last week.

My friend @Dicksondavid in #PortHarcourt #Nigeria is #LookingForWork - he has worked before in #foodservice and has skills as a #barber and interest in #CivilEngineering / #construction

If anyone from the area knows of opportunities (including assistance for interview travel expenses) and/or can advise how a young man in this can get genuine work (he has had previous issues with unpaid wages and paying for travel only to find there are 0 vacancies) it will be much appreciated..

Perhaps this uncle should have been less stubborn and accepted the offer of rehousing? Now he has the whole entire motorway built around him with 120 km/h live traffic either side, and can't even join it easily if he drives (the transport authority did build him safety/soundproofing walls, but it seems he didn't get his own private slip road, which would have at least made things slightly more tolerable) #China #Motorway #Transport #CivilEngineering

Great news that the Elizabeth Line (that will forever be known to those who worked on it as Crossrail) has won the Stirling Prize, the most prestigious architecture award in the UK.

It is already the most used railway line in the country. Although much was made of delays in the fit-out, testing and commissioning stages, the final product is a wonder.

Really would be nice if our city council understood this.

Fortunately it does help when you realize this operational flaw with stroads like Lewis Avenue and Utica Avenue, where traffic can't go fast because of turning traffic and signals. Especially now that Idaho stop is a thing and drivers more or less expect it now.

This is the blue bridge in Freiburg. Built in 1886 it was originally used by cars and trams. In 1961 however the tram tracks were removed and in 1996 the bridge was closed to motor traffic. It since has been dedicated to pedestrians and cyclists only. The bridge is a key piece in the local cycling network, connecting the growing west of Freiburg with the city center. A daily average of 10,000 bicycles cross the bridge. But it is not just a piece of infrastructure. Many people come together on the steps and arches to have a drink or watch the sunset.

From satellites to rocket testing and everything in between, Australia has a huge space industry – but did you know we have yet to create and launch our own rocket into orbit? 🚀

Many advancements are in the works right now, including the maiden launch of the three-stage rocket, Eris, the creation of a medical training curriculum for astronauts, and the development of space-grown plants.

Discover the history of Australia's space race and the endeavours we continue to take on… ausgeo.co/spacerace

: She believed she could, so she did.

Congratulations to our Founder and Executive Director, Jasmine M. Jackson, who completed her year-long #NCEPFP (Education Policy Fellowship Program) and delved into education policy at the state (North Carolina) and federal levels!

We can't wait to use the information our founder learned through her fellowship to better service our future accelerators with #digitalliteracy and #cybersecurityeducation by exposing and having them thrive in the technological age.

Well, hi everybody. I guess I should do an introduction. Hi, I call myself Expert Plus, I am a 3D Artist (using a fork of Blender, known as K-CyclesX and Luxcore's Blender render addon), my avatar and banner are made by me. I'm privacy focused, so, if you are too, tell me, and I'll follow you :-) I've been on Internet since 2016. Joined Mastodon in 2021 but left it at the time. Now, I'm here :-) I would like to have some followers on here, I only followed back myself on my current Mastodon account. This website, I think, should be useful for Twitter migrants. I'm mostly spending activity at @expert , so to see me active, please follow it. Otherwise, I'll try to be active here as well :-) #privacy #b3d #blender #blender3d #fediverse #mastodon #twitter #twittermigration #mastodonmigration #introduction #art,#creativeart,#disability,#disabilityawareness,#Engineering,#CivilEngineering,#immigration,#migration,#refugees,#nature,#wildlife,#coding,#programming,#technology,#tech,#technews

For the last couple of weeks I've
been exploring some ideas around #AR and #architectural prototyping.

(And using the project as an excuse to get familiar with #Blender).

As a software engineer, I'm used hierarchical organisation of code. So my software is organised by files, modules, classes etc.

Wondering what the corresponding process is for #civilengineering and #mechanicalengineering? How do folks organise components in their designs? #architecture #augmentedreality #prototyping
