I've replaced the battery on my Pebble Time Steel and looking forward to charge it again after I've emptied the battery completely for the first time. It's running since 2025-03-21 = around 10 days and it's still at 4%.

Regarding the drops: I wasn't able to wear it all the time (first I've attached the screen using tape and when glueing it back on, a pin of my wristband failed...)

The latest #Pebble blog post reminds me of why I’m backing this project: ericmigi.com/blog/gratitude-an

On the one hand, Pebble proved to the world that smartwatches are a thing, and now there are several out there, but most are slick, locked-down things.

The new Pebble is a scrappy, tiny company, building a watch that is specifically open-source, extensible and repairable, with the visible-in-sunlight screen and massive battery life I love. It's nicely anti-#enshittified

Ahhh, so they put out some more detailed info on the new #Pebble watches. It turns out that the Core 2 Duo model is going to be literally the Pebble 2. Like they found a supplier that still had stock of most of the parts from the original Pebble 2. Unfortunately this means the issue with the buttons falling apart will still be a thing. Though they say they have made a slight tweak to improve their durability a little.

@fakeshell Incase anyones wondering I gave this a shot with rockwork for my #pebble and its working. Lets me use my pebble while i wait for the amazfish support. Notifications dont work due to how UT handles notifications but getting stats is at least pretty useful! Need to see what other UT apps i can try.

I'm perfectly okay with this. If you choose to live in a #WalledGarden, you have to expect that your experience is going to be sub-optimal when compared to the experiences of the outside world. If you think your experience is superior you're either naïve or delusional. #Apple #Pebble #SmartWatch

The new #repebble watches gave me the motivation which I needed to finally replace the battery on my #pebble time steel (again). But this time with a proper battery (3,8V / 400 mAh - HSABAT SP551923AE P140116 on Aliexpress). I've removed the connector from the original battery and soldered it onto the new one. It's very tight but it fits and it's working! Now I'm going to test it for a while before gluing the display back on the case.

Hyped by the announcement of the new #Pebble watches, I decided to repair my old Pebble 2 (it now has rather nice 3d printed buttons). I have tried several smartwatches since my Pebble broke, and I had totally forgotten how superior the UX on the Pebble was and still is, all these years later.

As for why the #Pebble Core Time 2 isn't for me, either — with that price tag, we're entering in Garmin's territory, and we all know that Garmins are unbeatable in terms of features, customizations, never-ending battery life, etc.

At the same time, I am fully aware that Pebble is not the same sort of mass-market product, and can't afford to slash prices with clever sales or supply-chain tricks.

I totally dig the black-and-white aesthetic of the #Pebble Core 2 Duo, but the lack of a heart-rate monitor is a bit too much of a miss for my taste. Given that Pebble is targeting a large part of the hacking, modding, and tinkering folks, it just severely limits what you can do with it, IMO. I'd have much rather preferred them upping the price to $169 for a C2D with an integrated HR sensor. I would have bought it in the spot.
