Another chance, but welcome sighting in Bungendore was a Collared Sparrowhawk, that happened to land in a tree in front of me, just as I was looking that way.

A smallish bird of prey, perched in a dead tree against a blue sky. The bird is grey on top, with yellow eyes, and a pale chest and belly, liberally striped with rufous closely spaced, thin stripes.

In this photo, the bird is looking directly at the camera, one eye in the sun (camera left) one in the shade (camera right). The shaded eye has a much bigger iris.
