Given what the light indicates of the weather, I'm inclined to say that this one is from a trip to the botanic gardens. Not only is it rare for my local woods to get such vibrant lighting, but I think this particular kind of pine is different to the growth of my local patch as well. I'm long overdue a trip back to both places, really.

Taken with some sort of Sony Xperia, probably, approximately two to three years ago.

When we visited the Christchurch Botanic gardens recently my daughter took me to this ancient ivy, her favorite plant in the gardens. It has some terrifically twisted, creepy H. R. Eiger vibes.

It grows up the side of a giant sequoia tree that was planted in 1873. I expect the ivy cannot be much younger than that as its base is completely smothered by large sequoia roots.

I just went for a walk in the Fredericton Botanic Gardens. Over thirty years ago, I helped build that place. I designed and installed the nature trails (no gas tools, all picks, axes, bucksaws, and shovels), and planted hundreds of trees. I was mentored by botanist Hal Hinds, and got my start as a botanic illustrator with him. Where there once was a field, there now is a forest. I did that. It feels good to see the fruits of my labour. How many people get to see a forest they planted? #forestry #BotanicGarden #trees #forest #WoodsWorker #SummerJob #RoadTrip #Fredericton
