My mom had hot flashes for 50 years. They started well before menopause. Which is something I wish I knew before my orchiectomy. Now, I have horrendous hot flashes, which will likely continue for the rest of my life.

Do I regret my gender-affirming surgery? Not at all!

I would rather live the rest of my life with hot flashes than a single day longer in a body that did not feel like my own!

There is a reason that so few trans people regret their gender-affirming surgeries. It's because we have them to affirm the truth. When you embrace the Spirit of Truth, you have no regrets.

Happy Transgender Day of Visibility!

They had to start a GoFundMe because none of the 15 arts and heritage funders they approached wanted to support an exhibition on menopause! They are still taking donations: gofundme.com/f/r9tszw

Very interesting review of studies on the use of creatine supplements for female health. Of particular note is the benefit to post-menopausal women, with the expected help in increasing muscle strength, but also in countering depressive moods. #menopause #creatine #depression

MDPICreatine Supplementation in Women’s Health: A Lifespan PerspectiveDespite extensive research on creatine, evidence for use among females is understudied. Creatine characteristics vary between males and females, with females exhibiting 70–80% lower endogenous creatine stores compared to males. Understanding creatine metabolism pre- and post-menopause yields important implications for creatine supplementation for performance and health among females. Due to the hormone-related changes to creatine kinetics and phosphocreatine resynthesis, supplementation may be particularly important during menses, pregnancy, post-partum, during and post-menopause. Creatine supplementation among pre-menopausal females appears to be effective for improving strength and exercise performance. Post-menopausal females may also experience benefits in skeletal muscle size and function when consuming high doses of creatine (0.3 g·kg−1·d−1); and favorable effects on bone when combined with resistance training. Pre-clinical and clinical evidence indicates positive effects from creatine supplementation on mood and cognition, possibly by restoring brain energy levels and homeostasis. Creatine supplementation may be even more effective for females by supporting a pro-energetic environment in the brain. The purpose of this review was to highlight the use of creatine in females across the lifespan with particular emphasis on performance, body composition, mood, and dosing strategies.

I'm on #HRT because my mental health plummeted with menopause - something else people aren't aware can happen; I got bad suicidal ideation - but honestly, the physical symptoms some people go through are so horrific I'll take the headweasels, thank you. A friend has been talking about this one on FB and a number of other cis women have said 'yeah, same' so this condition isn't rare. And the repeated UTIs as a result of tissue thinning in much older cis women can affect cognition; I saw it in my own grandmother, who could appear dotty when what she needed was antibiotics.

On Friday we are closing our #Menopause fundraiser. It's time for a last hurrah of fundraising for this programme! We raised about half of our target, which is enough for the exhibition to open to the public on 1st March, but we need more to do this topic justice! gofundme.com/f/r9tszw
