Turns out using a tarot deck, instead a normal set of card, solved a few problems.

This is a french deck, but it should work equaly well with different kind of deck like a Rider Waite one.

So happy to finally have an elegant prototype of that solo game.

Would anyone be interested to playtest it when we have the rules in document (in the next week) ?

(The next version will have cards arranged differently than in the second picture for obvious reasons)

In a forum far far away, I mentioned the unpleasant memory of how I'd once quickly gotten a big combo, milked it for all it was worth, the other players didn't stop me, and thus I won the (long) game right there. I ended the comment with this being, "Not something I'd wish on anyone."

The responses were about how great that was, how much they liked that visceral feedback, the gratification -- missing the point that what I'd hoped would be a game, a game with gameplay, with contest & striving & mixtures of failures and successes was now a pathetic ignorable degeneracy.

This is not a sob story of WoeMe and the GreatSadnessOfBeingMisunderstood, but rather recognition of the value of sustained interactive struggle in games, and the appreciation thereof. Something to seek and celebrate.

[S] I had an inconvenient flash of inspiration while we were in the bathroom. I think I can clearly define what "Phallusitude" is, and thus why Split-Fiction has it more than Duke Nukem 3D!

Okay! Phallusitude is: An intense form of very toxic bonding over the needlessly violent abuse/bullying of others.

Necessary factors are: It must take itself seriously; The abusers must be in a position of power over their victim, where they have options other than abuse.

[P] I've been thinking of something my partner said, lately. It turns out that the more I look into this, the more true it is in an Absolute sense. As in, this has transcended from being a gut feeling into a fact. The closer you get to AAA in gamedev, the higher the chance that the project will be arbitrarily male lead, even if there's a woman serving as the figurehead. This can be measured in the style of the game. Split Fiction set me on this path.
