none of the separate countries have economies that rival USA, BUT THAT’S WHY #EuropeanUnion EXISTS. put them all together and they do rival the “largest” economy in the world.
the #Boycott is happening because the EU left have been working on this for months.
for the #Divest, Macron literally said, stop all investments for the next month. that would tank Wall Street even further.
and #Sanctions? EU been itching to sanction USA tech oligarchs. tis the excuse they been waiting for. /
so, when Marine Le Pen got smacked down, decided to catch up with my French politics reading and, those were the days (less than a week ago) when only la gauche were calling for a boycott of États-Unis over #Gaza #Ukraine #Greenland and shameless #fascism & #corruption, especially the Tesla shmuck.
then the orange fuckwad turned tariffs into extortion.
so now, Macron has said, in so many words, it’s time to #Boycott #Divest & #Sanction USA:

"This month our podcast looks back at the Bowdoin College encampment in early February that took over a portion of Morrell Lounge demanding the institution publicly stand against #scholasticide in #Gaza and #divest from certain arms manufacturers who have been supplying Israel’s criminal acts there. This episode maps out the encampment day by day, adding context and clarity to the brave action taken by students."

KEEP IT UP, FOLKS! Anti-#DOGE #protests at #Tesla stores target #ElonMusk’s bottom line
By RODRIQUE NGOWI and JONATHAN J. COOPER
Updated 4:07 PM EST, March 2, 2025
BOSTON (AP) — Demonstrators gathered outside Tesla stores across the U.S. Saturday to protest the automaker’s billionaire CEO, Elon Musk, and his push to slash government spending on behalf of President Donald Trump.
The demonstrations are part of a growing backlash in North America and Europe to Musk’s disruptive role in Washington.
Critics of Trump and Musk hope to discourage and stigmatize purchases of Tesla, the electric car company that is the world’s most valuable automaker. Liberal groups for weeks have organized anti-Tesla protests in hopes of galvanizing opposition to Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency and energizing Democrats still demoralized by Trump’s November victory.
“We can get back at Elon,” said Nathan Phillips, a 58-year-old ecologist from Newton, Massachusetts, who was protesting in Boston on Saturday. “We can impose direct economic damage on Tesla by showing up at showrooms everywhere and boycotting Tesla and telling everyone else to get out, sell your stocks, sell your Teslas.'"

So tired of seeing good people who are standing up for humanity getting brutalized by the cops. This is the reality our politicians have created in service to their corporate donors.
In Bologna, #Italy, students for #Palestine staged a protest at the University of Bologna’s academic year opening ceremony, demanding for an end to academic normalization with apartheid, and for the university to cut all ties with Israeli institutions complicit in the occupation and genocide.
A couple years ago I moved my primary banking to VanCity credit union because BMO and CIBC, who I had used my entire life, were actively, unrepentantly, and significantly, killing our climate.
They still are.
I don’t believe Carney is going to change that.

Sally and Dalia. Twin sisters from Gaza, they were admitted to the University of Waterloo's PhD program in Systems Design Engineering through the Palestinian Students & Scholars At Risk (PSSAR) initiative. Sally and Dalia were killed in an lsraeli airstrike on civilians during the ongoing genocide in Gaza. Their lives ended before they could even begin their journey.
Let me guess, the first “entity” a Canadian Pension fund takes majority control of will be some slimy oil interest.
In fact, I will go straight out on that limb and say it will be Trudeau’s Transmountain Boondoggle Climate Killer.
If it is my pension fund doing the buying you may hear the screams for miles….

So, let's assume that the fediverse (mastodon, in particular) is the ONLY social media I will ever take part in for the forseeable future for Reasons.
If I want to organize a mass boycott/strike/divest group so we can best make use of our collective power --
would this be possible?

Good to point out the measures that individuals can take to move the needle!
#ProjectDrawdown suggests that every $1,000 we hold in a fossil-fuel-financing bank results in carbon emissions equivalent to a cross-country flight (which sounds insane, but I’m not qualified to check their math).

I'm reading more every day about Jewish donors divesting from charities which have turned antisemitic. This puts these organizations into a challenging position- one which they've created for themselves:
Bow to the loud demands of hate groups, or accept donor funds.
It's an important sign to Jews as well: Our voices, or at least our money, counts.
I guess divestment does work!
The next phase of the work will be to re-engage these entities with conditions that include anti-hate requirements, and if not, then we go back to what we have always had to do in our two thousand years in the diaspora: make our on institutions.
We can do this, and we must for the future of our people.

From Campus to the Courts, the “#PalestineException” Rules #University #Crackdowns
by Akela Lacy, Yazan Mohammad
November 18 2024, 2:04 p.m.
"With #Israel’s war on #Gaza entering its second year, Khalaf is among thousands of students and faculty members still being targeted in universities’ battles over harsh #ProtestCrackdowns, #FreeSpeech, academic independence, and discrimination.
"The fights are playing out online, in campus quads, internal disciplinary proceedings, and in the courts. Organizers among the students and faculty say universities are retaliating against them for their #activism and restricting their #CiviLiberties and #FreedomOfExpression while claiming to uphold both.
"As campus protests reached their height in May, Dahlia Saba, a second-year Palestinian American graduate student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, wrote an op-ed supporting the demonstrators’ demands. She called on the school to address calls to #divest from industries that profit from Israel’s war. She and her co-author Vignesh Ramachandran, another graduate student, were met with student nonacademic disciplinary investigations that relied solely on the op-ed for evidence.
"'The university is threatening us with sanctions that could jeopardize our academic careers if we choose to speak out again,' Saba said. 'They’re low-level sanctions to begin with, but the university is pursuing sanctions against many people on very little evidence.'
"The issue is not so much the severity of the sanctions, Saba said, but using punishments to chill students’ speech. The disciplinary actions become a tool, she said, to help universities keep track of people involved in protests for #Palestine."
