Next steps.
Replaced the CM2 with a CYBER 180 (a machine we have in real) and replaced the floor tiles with a replica of raised floor tiles. Having normal, with holes to let air through and the ones with floor tanks for connectivity. #Cray #Cyber #vintagecomputing #blender #b3d #vintagecomputinglab
Rebuild the photo wall thingie. Now using two geonodes to generate the frames and the glass for the portrait and landscape photos and another geonode to generate the photos to the wall. I also rotate them very slightly, these imperfections make it much more realistic. Another change is the amber to green monitor output, which matches with the next video after this one.
Poor little MacBookAir has to render the whole 1800 frames now. #blender #b3d #cray #vintagecomputing
It’s Xenix
While compiling Perl on the Cray I stumbled over the following lines...
Compiling Perl on UNICOS system
It's not Xenix...
Hmm... Looks kind of like an extended USG system, but we'll see...
Congratulations. You aren't running Eunice.
It's not Xenix...
Nor is it Venix...
Use which C compiler? [cc]
Well Xe
Still work in progress on my little computer room... #blender #b3d #cray #cm2 #vintagecomputing
Planning to do more #Cray stuff to more. Anyone want to join in Munich tomorrow? #vintagecomputing #vintagecomputerlab
BTC-6 Cray compiles miniperl und etwas SUN
Nach mehreren Anläufen und vielen Stunden sind wir nun endlich an der Stelle ein Miniperl zu besitzen…

Cray Y-MP EL miniperl
After failing last time with a repetitive error and a never-ending story to get Perl 5.6.1 compilation we had a breakthrough with "timing".
The Cray thinks its 1994, but all the files from the tarball are in the future and therefore the compilation hang in a time delusion loop.

The problem with Seymour Cray’s infamous quote “would you rather have two oxen or 1000 chickens to plough a field” is that he failed to take into account that the 1000 would grow to a million chickens.
Cray Y-MP EL building things
Short update on our effort to get software running. We were looking for a aptext on the system, but did not find it.
Cray backup to tape, building gcc and searching for aptext
And we tried again to get gcc compiled, which failed again.
We got the first complete backup to the

Backup to /dev/nrpd03
Our Cray Y-MP EL has a Digital Data Storage DAT tape drive hooked to the IOP VMEBus computer and is presented into the UNICOS as /dev/nrpd03.
This is deciphered as no rewind parallel digital data storage.
We first run the DAT cleaning tape and after that we made sure the tape we inserted is at the be

#HPE #Cray #EX4000 'Hunter' #Supercomputer Now in Operation at #HLRS Powered by #AMD APUs
With a theoretical peak performance of 48.1 petaflops (48.1 quadrillion floating point operations), Hunter’s speed is nearly double that of HLRS’s previous flagship supercomputer, called Hawk. Hunter is based on the AMD Instinct #MI300A accelerated processing unit (#APU), which combines CPUs, GPU accelerators, and high bandwidth memory in a single package.
