@b9AcE But the thing is that that's already what we've been doing for decades at this point.

Digital assistants like #Siri or #Alexa have been interpreting the user's intention and forwarding it to the necessary modules, so-called "skills", forever. Those skills can do stuff like query trusted APIs for info and so on.

I work in this field, by the way; I've built my own conversational chat bots before the whole LLM takeover. I think it's incredibly sad that things went this way.

Do you think at some point in the near future you will be able to buy off the shelf #AI servers for home use that deploy as easily as a home-security NVR and have local voice control satellites / speakers / sensors (for example as easily as Reolink home security systems) effectively giving you the same power as #chatgpt / #alexa / #siri etc but totally local to your home? I feel like something like this could be the next big evolution for #HomeAssistant

Today #Amazon will force all your voice data from #Alexa through its #AI cloud. That means every word spoken in its presence goes right to Amazon Corporate. Worse, you can't disable this.

Oh, and if you think it isn't sending random conversations to HQ, you don't know Amazon's legal history. They even record children on their kiddie devices -- and store the data indefinitely.

Unless you want to mute the device 24x7 and make it useless, today's the day to ditch Alexa.

So this arrived today. Gonna try to get rid of my #Alexa from #Amazon by switching to #HomeAssistant’s voice assistant. My HA setup is a docker container hand made and it’s about 5 years old. Always feels a little fragile so I don’t update it often. The onboarding out of the box didn’t work. So I think I have to upgrade the container.

They also want my iPhone app to have Bluetooth permissions. That’s fine. But it doesn’t have them. I looked in the security settings and I haven’t denied it. It’s not listed under Bluetooth at all. I think that means the app hasn’t requested permissions yet. I don’t know how to make it ask. #homeautomation

You might as well throw your Echo and Alexa-powered devices in the trash like you should have done years ago.
