That was a great interview, and Richard got all his points across clearly and compulsively attractive. #AlboPM would be a fool to let this opportunity pass by without some kind of progressive action.

Here is the answer to the lower tax receipts and a bunch of dollars to throw at health, education, the environment and housing. Decisive action on any of these public responsibilities would catapult #Labor into the history books and grow its support amidst swinging voters.

Continued thread

#AlboPM didn't fair any better and the picture we get is one of 'dismissal' due to the severity of the lacuna in environmental action.

"On the other side of the campaign trail, Albanese was confronted by a climate change protester, Alexa Stuart, furious about the government’s continued approval of new coal and gas projects. She accused the Prime Minister of condemning her generation to a future of climate catastrophe, and she had every right to be angry: despite all the rhetoric about net zero and clean energy, Labor has green-lit 173 new fracking wells in Queensland and continues to approve existing fossil fuel projects under the fiction that they are not ‘new’ developments, but ‘expansions’. But a bigger gas field is still a bigger gas field, and a deeper coal mine still burns more coal.

Albanese’s response was to brush it off. He refused to comment, claiming that engaging would only encourage more protesters. But this isn’t a time to be avoiding engagement. Elections are one of the few moments when political pressure has real leverage – when leaders can be held to account by the very people they claim to represent. Protest during a campaign isn’t a disruption; it’s a democratic necessity. These aren’t just votes at stake – they’re lives, futures, and the shape of the planet to come. The climate crisis isn’t going to pause for polling day.

Bugger, and #SBS was my last resort for news since I no longer watch the #ABC.

Our bloody govt should pull out all stops and do something about our #NewsMedia lanscape. We can’t allow wholesale right wing brainwashing of the Australian population. #AlboPM should sack the ABC management and put some #RealJournalists in charge while simultaneously strengthening the ABC code of conduct in line with those of the #AustralianPublicService

Not a terribly good orator is he our #AlboPM . The sentiment is certainly on show but he should take some public speaking classes methinks.

As for the Journos, trying to make the PM say something outrageous to splash on a headline about the #TangerineMan ‘s behaviour during the white house meeting with the #Ukrainian President, give us a break guys. Do a proper job for goodness’ sake and that is not ‘fishing for controversies’ or harvesting ‘gotchas’. Inform the public rather than ingratiate your editor/owner.

#Greens and #AlboPM had better pull their fingers out and do some damned electioneering quick smart if we don’t want ot be lumped with an LNP federal Govt come #election2025

I’m so mad, they both seem to be sleeping on the job. They should be capturing air-time like there’s no tomorrow. They should be slapping #Dutton ‘s face as if it was a Russian/Chinese interrogation session. This is no time to be ‘nice’, to be ‘passive’ and let the record speak for itself.

WAKE UP guys

Here we go again… why is it that our fourth estate must make every election face off a two horse race?

Why must the Australian Electorate be presented with the excoriation of the two main party leaders as the defining metric for deciding which candidate to vote for (when few directly vote for the leaders who only carry one ‘seat’ anyway). Do we have dictators in charge of our political duopoly? Does the composition of the Parliamentary members not have any sway on how a Party governs when in power? Is it all up to one individual? All that this farcical comedy (polling) does is to promote the insanity that governments should be elected based on the charismatic index score of party leaders.

Where are the critical looks into presumed cabinet members? Where are swing seat candidates fairly assessed? Where are electoral lies exposed? Where is the performance ‘record’ tabulated, compared and contrasted? How about #informing the electorate instead of pushing a political #agenda ?

It was all pre-planned (Project2025). It was published. They voted them In nevertheless. They’ve got what they deserved.

Now would be agood time for #AlboPM to go on the attack and label #Dutton as a Trump-wanabe and push hard with US examples of the chaos caused by #Trumpists over there and scare the fuck out of all Australians thinking #Dutton ‘s #LNP is the way to go. Use LNP political bullshit against them.

"Peter Dutton leads a pack of duds, and his policies — where he has them — are an embarrassing confection of innumeracy and MAGA Down Under cut-and-pastes. Labor should be setting itself up for an extended period in government. Instead, Anthony Albanese is quietly leading it to defeat."

In this column, Bernard Keane (Crickey) has either prepared the Party faithful for an inevitable defeat at #Election25, or (in the event that #AlboPM 's office ever read his columns) warning the Labor Leader to up his game to ensure a return to office. Either way, what he writes kind of hits the nail on the head - though it may not be the best hammer. The 'small target' strategy adopted by Labor which won them government is not going to do it for them this time around, THAT is a GIVEN.

Concluding with 3 factoids that the electorate has been repeating for the last two years: "Voters aren’t interested in the composition of the workforce, or what proportion of the economy manufacturing makes up. They want to know (1) when energy and grocery prices are going to fall, (2) when the corporations that have gouged them and ripped them off will get their comeuppance, and (3) when the economy will start delivering for them rather than for investors, executives and the rich."

Of Albo's managerial style of leadership Keane remarks that "No-one else is playing by the rules."

It's High time for Labor to announce policies that will deliver on those wants and 'jam' the opposition into oblivion.

#AlanKohler is an 'economic wonk' and although I have little time for 'economists' generally, I like Alan's sense of humour. There is also the fact that apart from the economic crew at #AustralianInsitute.org, Alan Kohler is one of the very few 'level-headed' bean counters out there. More often than not, Alan comes up with some very astute comments, for example:

"Anthony Albanese is trying hard to lose the election. The Voice referendum was a debacle, reduced immigration targets won’t be met, housing supply targets won’t be met, he and Jim Chalmers are rabbits in inflation’s headlights, and now – amazingly – he has announced that under-16s will be banned from social media, without having any idea how to do it.

All Peter Dutton has to do to become PM next year is shut up and shake his head in disbelief, but he can’t shut up, and won’t do that, so he might lose because he is not Donald Trump. The No.1 requirement for a populist is to be popular."

I cannot fault Alan's analysis here at all.

@fixatedpersonsunit
Congratulations, you’ve succeeded in amping up my anxiety (not hard to do these days I confess).

Was I deluded into believing that #AlboPM was a politcally astute activist? If not, where the frigg is he hiding? In the magical event that Labor gets reelected, there’s going to be a cabinet revolt unless #AlboPM lets thing rip on the socially responsible progressive front. So many low hanging fruits to pick yet left rotting on the vine. Whaaaaaa 😫😫😫😭😭
