Mayor Sadiq Khan has brought together a landmark coalition of government, businesses, charities, and community groups to improve #London’s #rivers. Over £1.8 billion will be invested in the next five years to clean and protect the capital's #waterways. Key initiatives include £7.15 million in funding to reduce road run-off pollution, improve flood resilience, and support large-scale rewilding projects. #Thames Water is investing £1.8 billion in river health, including tackling sewage overflows on tributaries. #London #Wildlife Trust will invest £800,000 in local #river projects. The Mayor’s initiative also addresses inequality in access to natural spaces, with research showing lower-income and Black/Asian communities are less likely to visit waterways. This collaboration aims to make rivers cleaner, more accessible, and beneficial for both people and wildlife, aligning with Sadiq's 10-year Clean and Healthy Waterways Plan.

The washed-away Thames footpath at 6pm today between Richmond and Kew, an hour after high tide. The path between the river and the large pond on the other side has just vanished because the wet land/pond overtopped the path and has just eroded that bank away. The bike owner said he'd been watching it for 1h and the water had come down about a metre in that time. So I guess that section of the river (between Kew & Richmond) is going to be impassable for a while.
