I have a Node RED flow in my Home Assistant to restart my shitty modem when it hangs and there's no Internet.

Today the Node RED it self crashed and failed to restart and when the modem hanged I had to ask my someone to restart the modem manually.

Now I have to figure out a way to restart the service which is supposed to restart my modem.

To people who use #HomeAssistant, do you need #NodeRed to get the most out of it? Found this guide to setting up HomeAssistant in #Docker that helped me get both installed, but Node-Red's interface is pretty much unusable with a #ScreenReader, and I'm thinking of uninstalling it.

Over the past few days, I "channeled" my inner nerd into building an automated radiation detection system using open-source tools.

The device combines an ESP32 running #ESPHome for sensor data collection, my #HomeAssistant for centralized smart home integration, and #NodeRED for automating hourly Fediverse updates via a bot account

Technical Breakdown:

Sensor: Radiation D-v1.1 (CAJOE) - radiation detector

Connectivity: ESP32 transmits via Wi-Fi to Home Assistant

Case: #3dPrinting the case (photo) - base is black and the lid is blue and shows the logo of "Fallout" (pc game/ TV series)

Automation: Node-RED flow formats data into ActivityPub messages

Decentralized Sharing: Posts include μSv/h readings

While this started as a hardware tinkering project, recent global events — nuclear rhetoric in conflict zones, aging power plants, and insufficient transparency in environmental monitoring — made me realize decentralized citizen science could play a crucial role.

Open-source tools eliminate single points of failure, and Fediverse integration ensures censorship-resistant data sharing.

The sun is shining and I have a rest day...perfect opportunity to put the final touches on our EV charge controller set-up. Solar tracking dynamically adjusts charge current to maximise solar whilst allowing headroom for house load and a bit of hysteresis thrown in for the odd cloud ;) The magic sauce is #HomeAssistant and #nodered

Die Kiddies lassen ständig den Kühlschrank offenstehen.Vorgestern waren es mehrere Stunden.Also habe ich jetzt einen weiteren #Aqara Türsensor gekauft und diesen über #Zigbee in #ioBroker und #NodeRed eingebunden. Steht die Türe 30s (im Video 10s) offen, ertönt über die Zigbee-Sirene der Alarmanlage ein Warnton. In 2 Schritten von jeweils 10s wird die Sirene immer lauter. Ist die Tür nach 1min nicht zu, wird von @miraculix eine #Threema Nachricht abgesetzt.

#HomeAssistant + #NodeRed state machines: extremely powerful, IMO.

This is a simple latch that keeps on/off state, so we don't re-trigger an action when new state is reported on restarts.
