Maybe finally slowly and possibly and potentially things might be moving in the right direction for the #JohannesburgArtGallery...

「 The minister told a packed crowd at #Joburg’s Everard Read Gallery on Thursday night that “the war has started”.

“The president has taken it upon himself and given me clear instructions that the Johannesburg Art Gallery has to be brought back to the way it used to look. And the [Friends of #JAG] should not be seen as enemies like they’ve been seen as enemies,” he said. 」

Gauteng water crisis signals risk of climate-water conflicts

Gauteng is heading for Day Zero, with leading scientists pegging the province’s water crisis as a near-term climate change tipping point

As the engine room of South Africa’s economy, the province contributes more than a third of its gross domestic product. A water deficit in Gauteng will severely & directly compromise this position, with grave implications locally, nationally and beyond

"...for every four litres provided to Gauteng by Rand Water, one litre is wasted through leakage (the city’s fault) and one litre is either given away for free (public good), stolen (the public’s fault), or not accounted for (much harder to allocate blame). This means only half of what is provided can be charged for." #Gauteng #SouthAfrica #Water businesstech.co.za/news/lifest

Except for the weather feed (which is managed by @GrahamDowns, thank you!) these are bridged Twitter accounts serviced by the great bird.makeup service (big shout-out to its' creator @vincent!). You can create your own feeds on bird.makeup/

PLEASE NOTE though that your replies to/mentions of these bridged accounts can not be seen on X/Twitter, so for full two way communication these agencies need to set up "real" Mastodon accounts.

@lawrenceoarabia you wouldn't actually know it here in the Southern Hemisphere. It's the coldest day of the year today in #SouthAfrica, and this weekend is set to be the coldest it's been here for a FEW years, I think.

But that might actually be a symptom of global warming too, where as the polar ice caps melt they float south or something. I don't know, I'm not a scientist (I'm not a #ClimateChange denialist either, in case this post comes across that way).

All I know is, it is cold here this weekend. 🥶

Mind you, our past few summers have been particularly hot. And we were getting rain two weeks ago still. We're not supposed to get rain in winter in #Gauteng. So yeah, the #weather is really changing!
