Alex Viveros: Two cities stopped adding #fluoride to water. Science reveals what happened. #Calgary, #Canada, and #Juneau, #Alaska, show how ending fluoridation can affect #health

"Warren Loeppky has been a pediatric dentist in the Canadian city of Calgary for 20 years. Over the last decade, he says, tooth decay in children he’s seen has become more common, more aggressive and more severe."

Science News · Two cities stopped adding fluoride to water. Science reveals what happenedAs calls to end fluoride in water get louder, changes to the dental health of children in Calgary, Canada, and Juneau, Alaska, may provide a cautionary tale.

"Dental and health organizations say fluoridation is safe and that accessing other fluoride options may be difficult for low-income people.

In a statement, the Florida Dental Association said fluoridation is a naturally occurring mineral, not a medication, and is responsible for a 25% reduction in tooth decay in children and adults."

But on the upside, you can still buy assault rifles.

I hate to agree with this weirdo, but he’s not wrong. Even adults aren’t supposed to use the big swirl of toothpaste shown on commercials and packaging. It’s a waste, but at least it won’t permanently stain our teeth from the inside out.

If the kids aren’t swallowing it I don’t understand how it would hurt the IQ though.

“Specifically, Paxton suggests that the toothpaste makers are marketing the toothpastes to encourage children to use too much, such as by adding appealing flavorings. Paxton notes that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American Dental Association (ADA) both recommend using small amounts.”

@afewbugs YES!! I was also complaining about this this morning. (edited to add that after I replied my brain caught up to the fact that you are in the UK. It’s kind of horrifying that everything is so messy everywhere these posts could apply to any of us.)

For example, I am cheering for them to remove the fluoride from the water because my adult teeth grew in orange and brown from an excess amount of #fluoride I consumed as a child (or maybe my mom did while pregnant. My younger brother got the white spots so he was exposed to less flouride but he was damaged by it too.)

I was bullied for it until I was 13 years old and I could get bonding to cover them, then I had to wait until we moved to a new city where no one knew I used to have brown teeth before I could attend school without being bullied DAILY.

I’m also super excited for them to get rid of the worthless food dyes. Maybe red dye is a problem and maybe it’s not, but since it does nothing but make things a fake color, get rid of it. 🎊🎉🎈👏🏻

I was horrified when this administration took over, but I’m super excited to get rid of fluoride in the water and worthless dye in the food & I don’t care who does it.

Oh boy, I didn’t expect to wake up this morning feeling so abused that I’m finally fine with whatever MAGA wants to do to the government. Tear it all down because it is worthless.

If they dismantle the post office I no longer have to sit here angry that the dispensary sent a postcard to my home that is now stored at the post office forever. If they burn it all down I don’t have to care about that anymore.

Are we supposed to be upset that they want to take toxic dyes out of the food? Are people really mad they can’t poison their kid with stupid colors that don’t need to be in the food anymore?

And all y’all screaming about how there should be a bunch of fluoride in the water clearly have never heard about #Fluorosis.

Educate yourselves. We don’t need fluoride in the water we have fluoride in the toothpaste you can buy some fluoride mouthwash for your kid if you’re really worried about it.

Do you have any idea what it’s like to be a child going to school with teeth that look like this? Do you think the other kids at school understand that this happened because your parents lived in Arkansas full of natural fluoride in the water when you were a baby?

I’ve had to pay to cover my two front teeth with bonding since I was 13 years old and the last time it chipped (2024) it cost me $400 and if I don’t fix my chipped tooth it rips my lip every time I speak or smile. All because psychopaths thought it was a good idea to put fluoride in water that already had a bunch of #fluoride I guess.

"Kennedy has erroneously called fluoride 'an industrial waste' and blamed its addition in drinking water on health issues including arthritis, bone fractures, bone cancer, IQ loss, neurodevelopmental disorders and thyroid disease. Health experts widely agree that fluoride — a common, naturally occurring mineral — at regulated levels is a major benefit to public health."
