And now for something COMPLETELY different, and yet hauntingly familiar. My Scottish cousin is half-right, this USED to be a local tune, when the oldest mountains in the world weren't cut in half by a wee ocean...
Duelling... accordia?

@joewynne yeahh!!!
This youtube comment is great.
"This song adds 69 horsepower to whatever you're driving... It's a fact"
So, it's #BanjoDay. This week's #TuneTuesday theme is called #BanjoYay and that means songs that feature the instrument.
I actually HATE most country music. The recent glut of crap bores me, but when I discovered #bluegrass, it felt like I'd found a secret goldmine.
Great harmonies, fast-paced mandolin and banjo solos that last like ten minutes. Just FUN. Hard to pick one, but here...
'Meet Me at The Creek' by the awesome Billy Strings.
In celebration of the new Alison Krauss and Union Station album I just uploaded an AK&US "sbd archive" collection (125 songs from 1989-2012, no repeats) and one of her shows as a member of the Tony Rice Unit from '88. These are legal live lossless audio files for download. I'll leave them up for a few days but not long.

"You're lighter now go out and see
What they mean when they say that you're free
Down we go
Down to the show
Don't take it from me, baby, what do I know?"

Have I mentioned that this is my theme song and mantra? You can either join or we'll cover your escape. No hard feelings either way.
I've Been All Around This World (Live) - Jerry Garcia
You bluegrass fans will be appalled, but I want to go back and remix all the early Country Gentlemen recordings and remove every John Duffy mandolin solo.
He is... not good.
His voice was excellent, but I think they let his mandolin in the band to get his tenor harmonies.
His mandolin solos are crap. He sounds like some beginning jazz alto sax player who just discovered the blues and flattens every note in sight for no damn reason, like Mandolizilla.
Okay, in 1851 the opera Rigoletto was first performed in Venice. BUT 155 years later, a Canadian film adaptation, ''Rigoletto ...in bluegrass" won Best Originality at the Bluegrass Independent Film Festival in Kentucky.
While most of the music is deliberately corny bluegrass, the Prelude and the Introduction from the original opera are performed by the Mandolin Society of Peterborough.
If you want to help change minds and maybe even bring a flicker of sanity back into an insane world, please consider this documentary, currently in production, focused on defeating antisemitism through the power of American roots music:
We had a very nice weekend at Oud-Poelgeest, Muziek in het Kasteel with Log Jammin' #bluegrass https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLOagHnM-KP48imSWYM-H91ML1TRuEa3Gj
In a world of insincerity and auto-tuning, this is impressive and touching.

Hi! I’m a Finnish folk-bluegrass musician and singer-songwriter, here to share my music and information about upcoming gigs, and to find interesting and hopefully even inspiring accounts to follow.
This Friday we will provide the support act for the #BluegrassBoogieMen in De Paul, Uden.
I have first seen this band on Dutch national television during the infamous #Top2000 There they played modern hits in #bluegrass style for a quiz. That was good fun
Looking forward to hangout with these gents and Lady:
#NowPlaying - it's a much shorter line from muleskinner to the meat puppets than generally acknowledged, at least when clarence white is up in the mix. #bluegrass #punk @vinylrecords
Paul Revere & the Raiders - Freeborn Man
#bluegrass heads are often surprised to learn this isn't a Jimmy Martin tune. It was written by Mark Lindsay & Keith Allison. Lindsay was a member of the Raiders but released the original Freeborn Man as a solo project. Allison later joined the Raiders too, leading to this swaggering, definitive rock version. Glen Campbell had the first hit version, between Lindsay's and this one, and Martin picked it up around that time. #music
"Blue Moon of Kentucky" is a #waltz written in 1945 by #bluegrass musician #BillMonroe and recorded by his band, the Blue Grass Boys. Some think the origins may trace back to "Roll Along, #Kentucky Moon", a similar waltz recorded 20 years prior by #JimmieRodgers. The song has since been recorded by many artists, including #ElvisPresley and #PaulMcCartney. The song is the official bluegrass song of Kentucky. In 2002.
