While the precise details of #COFA agreements—which have only ever been extended to the small island nations of #Micronesia, the #MarshallIslands & #Palau—vary depending on the signatory, the US govt typically provides many essential services, from mail delivery to emergency management [which under #Trump’s #FEMA reductions isn’t even provided in the US] to #military protection. In exchange, the #USmilitary operates freely in COFA countries & #trade w/the US is largely duty-free.

A personal hero of mine, fellow servicemember, and #trans man Logan Ireland is facing what looks like the final step in the White House's efforts to ban #transgender folks from serving in the #USMilitary.

Thousands of Americans serving with honor are about to be treated with disdain.

Meanwhile, Palm Center estimates that it will cost the US 1900% more to kick out trans #servicemembers than to pay for their specific healthcare needs ($1 bn vs $52 mil).

For those of you who have served with #Transgender people in the #military you know they willingly want to serve their country by being in the military yet they are being driven out by a cowardly draft dodging criminal who has a drunken wife beater do his dirty work.

Impeach #Trump and get rid of his sycophants.

80 years ago, the 855 members of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, known as the Six Triple Eight, headed to Birmingham, England, to sort an enormous backlog of mail. They were faced with millions of letters and packages addressed to American soldiers and government personnel stationed across Europe, some of whom had received nothing in years. Three months later, the predominantly Black, all-female unit, which had the motto, "no mail, low morale," had done it. In 2022, then-President Joe Biden signed into law an act that would award members of the battalion a Congressional Gold Medal. Today, the two surviving members received theirs. Here's more from @npr about the work the unit did, the campaign to get them their medals, and how the Department of Defense's DEI purge impacted their legacy.
