I’m on the bench with a knee problem so still no #running but that does mean I’m blasting through all the DIY and garden jobs that need doing instead, including giving our two old ewes a haircut. #SheepOfMastodon

This is Priscilla, one of our two Jacob sheep. She is black and white and is standing in the garden having just been sheared. She now looks laughably skinny compared to before her haircut

Here are the cute little Valais Blacknose I promised you from MDSW yesterday!

I was sad to read to today that the hail storm that hit right as we were heading out from the parking lot took out a significant number of vendors.

I took a walk after tea to say hello to the lambs near the farmhouse. I met the weaned bottle babies who gave the softest nose boops .

#SheepOfMastodon with ghostly outlines of Assynt's "inselberg" - "Island Mountains" - in the distance. Canisp, Suilven, Cul Mor, Cul Beag, Stac Pollaidh and Quinag: a whole archipelago of Torridonian sandstone rising up out of Lewisian Gneiss, peat bogs and lochs. Nothing like a few billion years of slow-motion tectonic collisions to put human history to scale.

A handful of white sheep grazing by the side of a narrow road, a tiny lamb sunbathing by a rock in the rough grass. A broad arc of sea slices into the land in the centre of the pic, and in the distance, a long range of mountains is just about visible, slightly hazy. The distinctive shapes of the Assynt mountains - isolated peaks rising up out of the landscape. The sky is pale blue with long trailing white clouds.

27/30 for my photo-a-day in April

I took a friend round the local Quaker Trail and we visited the various historic Quaker sites. It was a beautiful day, sunny but not too hot. The trees are all coming into leaf and there is blossom and wild flowers everywhere.

We also saw these splendid rams. Total distance was 7.5 miles. I am now tired and a bit achy. Getting old means slower recovery time so I'll have a restful day tomorrow.
