"Doom 2 will not run properly on that weaving."

Monday, stony Monday posted the excellent The Pentium as a Navajo weaving, about a unique rug design based on Intel's Pentium chip (the P54C, to be exact), painstakingly made using traditional Navajo materials and techniques ... and the fascinating and complex social, cultural, and technological history behind it. (hat tip to grumpybear69 for the title!)

From Encampment Groningen (3/3):

'... While doing everything to apply their rules deferentially to Palestine related events, the university still considered our negotiations to be fruitful and positive, not even realizing how their actions created an atmosphere of censorship both among students and staff.

That is why we, the students and staff of the university of Groningen, have reached a point beyond negotiations. Our demands are clear and do not need further explication - one cannot divest 50% or disclose 50%. What we need is the university's commitment to actually break out of their complicity in the colonization of Palestine and the annihilation of Gaza that is unfolding right in front of our eyes.

Our demands are clear.

Disclose!
Boycott!
Divest!

Come by, join us, and support!

Free Palestine!'

From Encampment Groningen (2/3):

'... The university offered us empty promises and inside the meeting room and humiliating sympathy to the Palestinian in there, promising support and understanding to us only to be silenced in classrooms when speaking up about injustice and kicked out of courses for that. Even in their most recent statement, they allegedly disclosed all Israeli ties even though it was us who provided them with a way more complete picture already back in February. At the same time, they repeatedly insinuate that the Palestine movements on campus make Jewish students and staff unsafe, ignoring our Jewish antizionist comrades’ fight for justice.

In short, the university kept promising things behind closed doors while doing the exact opposite outwardly - an investigation into Israeli ties became an investigation into Israeli and Palestinian ties, the promise to host Israeli Apartheid Week as has been done for years at the university turned into a host of cancellations. ...'

'Why we don't want negotiations

This encampment in solidarity has three demands- boycott, divest, disclose. Over the course of the day, the university has repeatedly offered to negotiate with us, and every time, we have declined their offer. We think that some of you might wonder why we are protesting at the RUG but don't want negotiations with the RUG.

We entered them being somewhat hopeful that the university would listen to said demands after the first negotiation, but we were quickly let down by their performative and downright neoliberal statements in response to us trying to find justice for the genocide in Palestine. Only to be further met with intense double standards for Palestinian students in relation to Ukraine, as well as the tactics that have been employed throughout the Ukraine war and the Israeli war on Palestine intensely differ, where absolutely nothing has been achieved within the university to protect lives of Arabs, but otherwise, where we've faced multiple counts of censorship before the second negotiation and another censorship of an event a week after that. ...'

🇵🇸 ENCAMPMENT ACTION 🇵🇸

We have created a liberated zone at the University of Groningen as of 10.40 this morning! JOIN US NOW and stand in solidarity with Gaza! Bring your friends, colleagues, fellow students. EVERYONE WELCOME, whether students, staff or anyone else - our liberated university is for everyone.

NO BUSINESS AS USUAL in the face of genocide, apartheid and settler colonialism! As students we recognize the long history of the university as imperial center of knowledge production and colonization of the mind, drawing a direct line between the atrocities committed in the colony back to academic institutions that deliberate over it under the guise of supposed neutrality.

The RUG is attempting to downplay this complicity and does not even want to name its partner institutions due to "safety reasons" - we ask, what safety is there left for students and scholars in Palestine?
