Dear #linuxmobile community, my linux-phone-as-daily-driver-journey took me from 2years of #librem5 (everything functions, but way to slow & outdated software) to 1year of #op6t (perfect phone - except that calling is not reliable:D) to some months of the #pixel3a now. feels like this could be the happy end of my journey, because you can actually use it as a fast-enough phone!:) a minor thing is however the missing gps: does anybody know if that can be fixed? or is it a hardware thing?

This #Pixel3a may be the first #postmarketOS powered device or even first #Phone EVER to build and run the #Kuroko #Python dialect!

#GitHub repo for Kuroko (made by the same guy who created ToaruOS and even he ported Kuroko to UEFI):

github.com/kuroko-lang/kuroko

(Built on master branch directly from #pmOS which is cool!)

UPDATE:
gitlab.alpinelinux.org/alpine/

Now attempting to get Kuroko officially in Alpine repos!

For #linuxmobile #postmarketos #mobian folks interested in cameras: there's a first version of patches for #libcamera softwareISP color correction matrix (CCM) support now: patchwork.libcamera.org/cover/

Together with autofocus (AF) this probably the main missing feature to get a somewhat reasonable image quality on devices like the #pixel3a or #fairphone5 with open drivers / close to #mainlinelinux.

For #linuxmobile / #postmarketos / #mobian etc. folks: there's a rather beginner friendly task to improve battery life for qcom devices like the #oneplus6, #pixel3a etc. by making sure sensors are idle when not needed.
If you have some spare cycles, motivation, basic C literacy (or want to learn it) and know how to build and deploy/test a package with pmbootstrap (or want to learn it) - this one could be for you.
The details are here: gitlab.postmarketos.org/postma

GitLabSDM845 battery life with sensors (#2455) · Issues · postmarketOS / pmaports · GitLabThis is mostly speculative right now, but I think there might be some impact on power consumption with sensors support in SDM845. I noticed when recording a video...

#postmarketos just landed an update for the #pixel3a enabling the rear camera \o/

That, AFAIK, makes it the first #exandroid (close to mainline kernel) device were both cameras work OOTB.

To set expectations right here: there's still a lot of work in various components in the stack before the camera experience comes even close to what you get on the same devices running Android (kernels).

Short comparison with my Pixel 6a running #lineageos - the rear cameras on both devices use the IMX363:

After a good week-end with #pixel3a, I've decided to keep it in my pocket for the week although the mic does not work yet in #sxmo ...

I carry an headset with me (microphone from the headset works but not the headphone ;))

I can also use gnome-calls to phone ...

Apart from that, the phone has proven very good, with a decent battery life (I ended yesterday with 50% without enabling suspend

Big up for everybody involved in bringing up this phone to #postmarketos and #mobian

Continued thread

Small update on #sxmo on #pixel3a

* Calls work very well with the forecoming ucm profiles
* sensors working through iio proxy, sxmo scripts to use them for proximity works
* wifi and 4g data ok
* front camera works in megapixel preview, won't take photo but this should evolve quickly
* gps enabled but not sending data/status (as with op6 from wrong android rom)

I've received a refurbished #pixel3a ...

I have installed #postmarketos / #sxmo on it and it "mostly works" even with no device profile

I now need to figure out how to tweak callaudio to make calls ... it works on gnome mobile, but on sxmo, it fails to switch to "call mode" ... on pavucontrol I only see a "Voice calls" profile (same on gnome mobile but works there)

I should have some time next week to try and figure out, but by then, if someone has an idea, they are welcome ;)

Just got me a #pixel3a - used, cheap and in surprisingly good condition. The updater of the stock rom tells me that the device is EOL - and indeed, according to endoflife.date/pixel it was EOLed over two years ago, despite being released only some 5/6 years ago. The kernel version starts with 4.x.

Well, tomorrow pre-build #postmarketos images should appear on postmarketos.org/install/, the next weekly should have it promoted from "testing" to "community" and the kernel is at 6.10.x.
