@paninid fast forward to the present and scientists who barely study #philosophy label #metaphysics as #pseudoscience (forgetting what #PhD means), torment #logic for the benefit of "elegant" #math equations (e.g. antimatter, dark #matter), and design #AI #systems that weaponize #ethics as justification for #information #censorship (#ChatGPT "knows" but refuses to answer how to a hot wire a car or commit murder while claiming no #opinion, ignorant that words and actions are different)

I'm automating stuff at the family farm using #homeassistant ; lights, smoke alarms, stove fire preventers, heaters.

It's inspiring to see so many iot devices support #ZigBee but also infuriating that 50% of the ones I've encountered has something fucky with their zigbee implementation. It's also somewhat concerning that the mains-connected zb router devices I've found will drop off immediately when the power goes out. The thought of not getting alerts about a fire in the barn if the power's out, concerns me.

I've got my eye on #matter , but I can't find compatible smoke alarms in Norway (so I can be confident they comply with local regulations, and return them if they're bad), and only limited reviews of ones available from abroad.

I see there's matteralpha.com/category/smoke and community.home-assistant.io/t/ but idk.

Can anyone recommend a mains-powered zigbee router device with a built-in battery, that'll keep it routing for at least 1 hour if it loses power?

Alternatively, a small (max 20*10*10cm) #ups that'll power a zb router or other tiny device for 1 hour? #NUT #networkUpsTools compatibility is a big plus

Observation of charge-parity symmetry breaking in baryon decays: arxiv.org/abs/2503.16954 -> Why is there more #matter than antimatter? CERN result offers tantalizing new clue: nature.com/articles/d41586-025 - physicists have spotted a difference in the way matter and antimatter baryons decay, which could help to explain a major cosmic mystery.

arXiv.orgObservation of charge-parity symmetry breaking in baryon decaysThe Standard Model of particle physics, the theory of particles and interactions at the smallest scale, predicts that matter and antimatter interact differently due to violation of the combined symmetry of charge conjugation ($C$) and parity ($P$). Charge conjugation transforms particles into their antimatter particles, while the parity transformation inverts spatial coordinates. This prediction applies to both mesons, which consist of a quark and an antiquark, and baryons, which are composed of three quarks. However, despite having been discovered in various meson decays, $CP$ violation has yet to be observed in baryons, the type of matter that makes up the observable Universe. This article reports a study of the decay of the beauty baryon $Λ^{0}_{b}$ to the $p K^{-} π^{+}π^{-}$ final state and its $CP$-conjugated process, using data collected by the LHCb (Large Hadron Collider beauty) experiment at CERN. The results reveal significant asymmetries between the decay rates of the $Λ^{0}_{b}$ baryon and its $CP$-conjugated antibaryon, marking the first observation of $CP$ violation in baryon decays, thus demonstrating the different behaviour of baryons and antibaryons. In the Standard Model, $CP$ violation arises from the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa mechanism, while new forces or particles beyond the Standard Model could provide additional contributions. This discovery opens a new path to search for physics beyond the Standard Model.

#homeassistant integration recommendation of the day:

"This project simulates bridges to publish your entities from Home Assistant to any Matter-compatible controller like Alexa, Apple Home or Google Home. Using Matter, those can be connected easily using local communication without the need of port forwarding etc."

I am not using this integration myself, as I don't own any #Matter devices (yet?). But I read many good things about it. Seems to be one of a kind.
