@ajsadauskas @JessTheUnstill @tomiahonen yes, and to add insult to injury #Mozilla didn't even wanted to sell people like @fuchsiii or me a #FirefoxOS device, with the only one being "launched" in the #EU being a #SimLock'd & #NetLock'd #prepaid phone in #Spain one could only attain in-store with all the "#KYC" nonsense they had, demanding a legal address in Spain back then.

And #nerds like myself are far from the "#consoomer #Normies" for whom stuff that isn't on shelves at Staturn/MediaMarkt, BestBuy, Walmart, ... doesn't exist. I'm used to importing #tech that I want!

So for Grazer Linuxtage (#glt25) I consider submitting a talk. I came up with two talk ideas so far. Which talk would you be interested in?

*Current state of digital typesetting*
a comparsion and explanation of typesetting engines like #TeX/#LuaLaTeX, #typst, #SILE, #boxesandglue, and frontends like #Quarto

*New features in CSS3*
This talk assumes you are familiar with #CSS, but you need an update for the latest #CSS3 features with a focus on typography and line-based typesetting

WHATEVER HAPPENED TO GOOD OLD HTML?

WebDevs, install the NoScript addon to your browser and check your pages before deploying them. You might be surprised.

NoScript is available for Firefox (addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firef) and Chromium-based browsers like Chrome, Edge, Brave, Vivaldi (chrome.google.com/webstore/det)

Using NoScript can make your browsing safer, too: “Because many web browser attacks require active content that the browser normally runs without question, disabling such content by default and using it only to the degree that it is necessary reduces the chances of vulnerability exploitation.” (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NoScript)

If you use JavaScript to impress and wow visitors, dig a little deeper into CSS3. You can do a lot, and I mean *a lot* of exciting things with just HTML5 and CSS3, as you can see (and learn) here: css-tricks.com Or here: w3schools.com/css

addons.mozilla.orgNoScript Security Suite – Get this Extension for 🦊 Firefox (en-US)Download NoScript Security Suite for Firefox. The best security you can get in a web browser! Allow potentially malicious web content to run only from sites you trust. Protect yourself against XSS other web security exploits.

My DIY circular slide rule side project — an excuse to improve my knowledge of CSS3 transitions and SVG — progresseth apace.

There is now a simple version (just multiplication and subtraction) and an advanced version (square and cube roots). It will also animate the solutions to random basic problems on either.

Coming soon:

  • advanced problems

  • DIY printables and instructions for assembling your own

  • detailed instructions

@hexaheximal@blob.cat @esm @hexaheximal@wetdry.world ...and even if we think local #WebApps are a legitimate way to handle sensitive comms - they ain't but let's just assume they are for the sake of argument - WHY would you do anything beyond a .desktop file that includes startup parameters for #Firefox (or even #Chrome if you're that kind of Cyber-Masochist!) that specify the browser, and the file to load.

Because any good #WebApp should be reduceable as #HTML5 + #JS6 + #CSS3 and measured in kB or maybe a few MB.

I've had this "CSS Crib Sheet" for probably 15+ years. I can't remember where it came from originally. If You know, please advise so I can add the correct citation.

Also, any #CSS gurus out there care to help me bring it up to speed w/ #CSS3? Even though it's old, some of the tips remain valuable:
