Spotted at the forecourt of #Basel SBB station earlier this week: one of the new #BLT #Stadler #trams, named #TINA (for “Total Integrierter Niederflur-Antrieb”) or, in a more prosaic way, Be8/10 Class 4200. They started operating on the Basel area suburban lines 10/17 and 11.

Out on the bike today along the #Baselarea #BLT Birsigtalbahn, Europe’s longest international tram line they say. I’ve actually taken all these pictures in France : the cycling route follows the line and passes right in front of #Leymen’s beautiful tram (or train) station.

In #Binningen near #Basel, the canton and light-rail operator #BLT are doubling a single track section. Houses are dismantled, the whole road is being widened and rebuilt. This includes the former light-rail track.
Instead of closing the line, they built a temporary diversion track on one of the former road lanes, so trains can still operate!
A shining example of the customer oriented approach and the will to find and pay for solutions, that makes Swiss local public transportation stand out.

A day out on the bike in #Leimental valley, southwest of #Baselalong the international #BLT tram line 10. At some point the line passes through #France, stopping at #Leymen . #Rodersdorfis the terminus station of the “Bähnli” and home to a small #Birsigthalbahn tram museum.

A hike this afternoon to #Rodersdorf south of #Basel - and returning by #BLT (i.e. Basel region transport authority) line number 10, or the “Bähnli”, as the locals say. This is Europe’s longest international #tram line (making a stop at #Leymen in France ). Rodersdorf shed is home to a nice collection.

A photo which could have been taken some 25 years ago, yet it’s from today: a #Basel region Be4/8-Be4/6 #Schindler #BLT tram (built/modified in the late 1970s and the 1990s) running alongside an otherwise empty #Ettingen to #Therwil road. #17 used to be the old #Birsigtalbahn line number.

Seen while on a cycling tour in the #Basel area earlier this afternoon: a #BLT line 10 class Be6/10 #Stadler “Tango” #tram leaves #Ettingen at speed, heading to #Basel. This is the former #Birsigtalbahn narrow gauge line. It is, legally and technically, still considered as a railway.

Sunday is usually my indulgent lunch day, as I invariably have at least 25 or 30 weekly flexible Weight Watchers points left over by then. So, BLTs two weeks in a row!

1. Bub and Grandma’s in Glassell Park, the winner.
2. Penny Oven in Eagle Rock, very good but the bacon was somewhat undercooked for my taste.
