“Looking south from La Siesta beach”

La Siesta beach is the very last beach in the commune of Le Mont-Dore, at the end of Plum Bay, on the road to the south of New Caledonia.

It's a brown-sand beach, bordered by a reef bed.

“At the estuary of the Pirogues River”

Pirogues River is a major river of southwestern New Caledonia. It flows into the sea at Pirogues Bay.

The Pirogues River is one of the largest rivers in the Grand Sud, and one of Caledonians' favorite bathing spots.

“Laterite landscape”

In the deep south of New Caledonia, laterite is a brick-red soil resulting from the weathering of an iron-bearing rock.

One hundred and twenty years of open-pit mining have left large, gaping, reddish wounds in the landscape, destroying the beauty of the landscapes, polluting rivers, water catchments and the lagoon, and multiplying the risk of landslides.

Long considered an integral part of the mining industry essential for development, environmental degradation was only really a concern and authorities only really became a concern in the early 1970s, just after the nickel boom.

“Stairz”

I tried several shots of the Center, with various angles and longer or shorter exposures, and all of a sudden I saw these areas of color that stood out well from where I was (blue in the upper left, yellow in the lower left, red in the lower right), and I gave it a shot. I then enhanced the effect a bit in Lightroom, but the main thing came from the shot.

My main regret is that the staircase should be more centered, but there was if I remember correctly no color reminder further to the right, and cropping to center would reduce the colored areas on the left.

“Japanese Zen”

The Albert Khan Garden in Boulogne-Billancourt, near Paris, is in fact made up of several thematic gardens, including a splendid Japanese garden, which invites you to meditate and rest, when it is not crowded during the many busy periods.

“Night mirror”

The water mirror is one of the attractions of the beautiful city of Bordeaux. It is located on the quays of the Garonne, opposite the Place de la Bourse.

The landscaper Michel Corajoud would have had the idea in reference to the Saint Mark's square of Venice during its regular floods.

“Inoummar agadir”

The Inoummar agadir is the largest granary in the Western Anti-Atlas (576 huts), near Ait Baha, on the road from Agadir to Tafraoute.

The “igoudars” testify to an ancestral history and a secular tradition. Long preserved in time, they reflect a culture both architectural and societal. They are collective granaries in the form of citadels, mostly watched over by a “lamine”, which literally means trustworthy man. They were used to store foodstuffs, crops of wheat, corn and barley, oil, jewelry and precious documents. Because of their fortified form, they constituted the ideal refuge and the reliable shelter of the foodstuffs and goods of the douar populations against the temptations of the brigands.

“The Moroccan High Atlas”

Here is a splendid view of the High Atlas mountain range, in Morocco, from the plain of Taroudant, near the town of Tioute, on the foothills of the Anti-Atlas.

The highest peak visible in the distance, 50 kilometers away, is the Jbel Tinergwet, which culminates according to the sources (very variable) between 3409 and 3551 meters of altitude: https://mapcarta.com/fr/17401510 http://peakbagger.com/peak.aspx?pid=46888
