🚨 HERE WE GO 🚨 The May 2024 question.

What is the longest chain of countries such that each successive country in the chain shares a land border and capital city names are in alphabetical order?

Example: SK 🇸🇰 (Bratislava) - CZ 🇨🇿 (Prague) - PL 🇵🇱 (Warsaw) is a chain of 3. Who can top that?

As always, you need the hashtag and the country flag emoji.

1/n

2/ One other twist to the game: in the case of dependent territories with their own ISO code you can use either the capital of the country or the capital of the dependent territory. So, for example, you can consider the capital of French Guiana 🇬🇫 (ISO code: GF) to be Cayenne or Paris.

Full rules, etc on the blog: blog.opencagedata.com/post/geo

Good luck!

blog.opencagedata.comGeotrivia - May 2024Blog > Monthly Geo Trivia questions Hi everyone,

3/ to clarify - capital names in ENGLISH, not the local language(s).

Also, in the case of countries with multiple capitals you can choose whichever you like

4/ @IIVQ opens the scoring with a chain of 6

🇳🇱 Amsterdam>🇩🇪 Berlin>🇧🇪 Brussels>🇫🇷 Paris->🇮🇹 Rome->🇦🇹 Vienna

5/ People, please.

ALPHABETICAL order.

You can do this. Athens 🇬🇷 does not before Ankara 🇹🇷. Budapest 🇭🇺 does not come before Bratislava 🇸🇰

6/ After taking a break for a few months, former champ @ccferrie is back with a vengeance, throwing down a chain of 10!

Bratislava 🇸🇰 Budapest 🇭🇺 Bucharest 🇷🇴 Chisinau 🇲🇩 Kyiv 🇺🇦 Minsk 🇧🇾 Moscow 🇷🇺 Riga 🇱🇻 Vilnius 🇱🇹 Warsaw 🇵🇱

EDIT: unfortunately we got too excited here. Budapest does not come before Bucharest. Sorry. But @ccferrie then also submitted this chain of 9: Belgrade 🇷🇸 Bucharest 🇷🇴 Chisinau 🇲🇩 Kyiv 🇺🇦 Minsk 🇧🇾 Moscow 🇷🇺 Riga 🇱🇻 Vilnius 🇱🇹 Warsaw 🇵🇱

7/ Was @ccferrie taking a break the last few months? OR WAS HE PRACTICING ALONE IN A REMOTE CABIN?

Behold, his chain of 11!

Addis Ababa 🇪🇹 Juba 🇸🇸 Kampala 🇺🇬 Kigali 🇷🇼 Kinshasa 🇨🇩 Luanda 🇦🇴 Lusaka 🇿🇲 Maputo 🇲🇿 Mbabane 🇸🇿 Pretoria 🇿🇦 Windhoek 🇳🇦

8/ some good efforts to go Latin American

@arferrand discovers 🇧🇿 Belmopan - 🇬🇹 Guatemala City - 🇸🇻 San Salvador - 🇭🇳 Tegucigalpa

while @njwatt finds Asuncion 🇵🇾 Brasilia 🇧🇷 Buenos Aires 🇦🇷 La Paz 🇧🇴 Lima 🇵🇪 Quito 🇪🇨

nice, but just not long enough. Keep searching!

9/ @Jann finds a new variant of the African chain, also for 11

Bangui 🇨🇫 – Juba 🇸🇸 – Kampala 🇺🇬 – Kigali 🇷🇼 – Kinshasa 🇨🇩 – Luanda 🇦🇴 – Lusaka 🇿🇲 – Maputo 🇲🇿 – Mbabane 🇸🇿 – Pretoria 🇿🇦 – Windhoek 🇳🇦

10/ nice little run through the 'stans by @njwatt to find a chain of 8. But that's just not enough, current lead is 11.

Ashgabat 🇹🇲Astana 🇰🇿 Beijing 🇨🇳 Bishkek 🇰🇬 Dushanbe 🇹🇯 Kabul 🇦🇫 Tehran 🇮🇷 Yerevan 🇦🇲

11/ This is an interesting one by @ccferrie

Asuncion 🇵🇾 Buenos Aires 🇦🇷 Brasilia 🇧🇷 Caracas 🇻🇪 Georgetown 🇬🇾 Paramaribo 🇸🇷

But wait ... is there more here? Who sees it?

EDIT: this chain of course has an error Buenos Aires does not come before Brasilia. We got too excited in the heat of the moment.

@opencage @ccferrie I do. 😊 Let's go on to Paris 🇫🇷 – Rome 🇮🇹 – Vatican 🇻🇦 (or Vienna 🇦🇹)

@opencage @ccferrie Oh, R is before S, of course. Gosh, it's not easy, that alphabet thing. 😂
