For the past few months, we've been working on decreasing our dependence on - most notably, our dependence on via .

We've been experimenting with @forgejo (which is very enjoyable), setup the build proces on our own hardware.

Since yesterday, the main instance is also hosted by . There are still a few dependencies, but the main hurdles have been taken!

@MapComplete @forgejo

I have tried to get people to use Linux and Libreoffice for years, but without success.

People prefer to constantly upgrade their hardware and to constantly pay Microsoft, because that's software that they are used to.

@ABScientist @MapComplete @forgejo

In many cases people don't have to pay for it in the first place because the company or whatever entity pays for them.

And, at a certain point, it becomes the quasi industry standard, which forces people to use it. It's a vicious circle in a way.

Who's old enough to remember #odf vs. OOXML?

@devSJR @ABScientist Yeah, or it is more convenient, already installed, all their friends are on it already...

@MapComplete I wonder if we can make the entire OSM ecosystem move to an OSMF-hosted @forgejo instance. Like we had with SVN back in the days.
