@eiZen 's profile made me realise I had not written an post yet: Hi, comrade federnauts! I'm Arlo, a water operator-in-training and a free culture hobbyist with special focusses on OSM, Wikimedia (especially Commons and Wikidata), and libre art. I enjoy checking out (but am not good at myself) worldbuilding projects, conlangs, recreational mathematics, and ecological theory and practice. I'm also an anarcha-feminist and card-carrying nonbinary person (any pronouns are ok).

Hello new Mastodon server! I’m Alex (or sometimes Lexie).

I’m a software developer, I do digital preservation stuff, I make cross-stitch and fun art, I do a fair bit of writing, I’m keeping the postal service alive with my stamp buying, I try to dance when I can.

Most of my online stuff is at ✨ alexwlchan.net ✨

But I’m also gently tipping my toes into the Mastodon-coloured waters, so maybe watch this space?

(Do we know what colour mastodons were, or do we just have to guess?)

I've been thinking a lot about something said in the latest episode of @srslywrong. War is the polar opposite of ecology. There is no way to "green" a military because the purpose of any military is to destroy - infrastructure, environments, and people. There's no way to make an entity that consumes resources to destroy other resources sustainable or ecological.

The Wikimedia commons picture of the day for 2023-12-07 is artwork by the astoundingly talented author of #PepperAndCarrot, @davidrevoy ! No doubt the cameo is facilitated by David's steadfast commitment to open artwork.

Gorgeous painting, David! Thank you for everything you contribute!

The farmers’ market was a hub on Sundays. Juniper, recognizable by her organic interests and ever-present camera, navigated the stalls. She stopped at the lemons, considering a daring act.

As the vendor turned away, she slid lemons into her blouse’s sleeves. But as she retreated, the lemons tumbled out, rolling at the vendor’s feet.

The vendor, seeing the fallen lemons, confronted Juniper. Flustered and ashamed, she attempted to explain, but her words faltered.

The vendor, unamused, called the authorities. Juniper faced charges for her attempted theft. In court, despite her pleas, she received a strict sentence. She was taken to prison, leaving behind her camera, her market Sundays, and her freedom. The market’s atmosphere darkened that day, as whispers of the incident wove through the stalls. Juniper’s impulsive act had irreversibly changed her path.
