Stanley Bing was a master of business humor, a narrower-than-normal niche but one he filled with wit, acid and panache. And every so often, you can turn a page and, hidden amongst the flinty, wry observations, is a profound truth that hits you like a ton of bricks.

How to Disagree with Someone More Powerful than You

"we are not able to provide additional feedback or information"
How you are *not able to* provide feedback on a candidate that you decided to reject? There are two possibilities:
1. You are just selecting randomly and therefore there is no feedback you can give
2. You *chose to* not explain your criteria.
Choosing to not give feedback and not being able to give feedback are significantly different things. Don't frame it like you have no choice.
"Is it time to ditch your emotional support hoodie?" Boutayna Chokrane writes for @WIRED. Her piece examines how what we wear can affect how others perceive us in the workplace, and consequently, our opportunities. "The hoodie masquerades as an everyman’s garment, but in the office, it’s a rich man’s privilege. For the rest of us, it just makes it easier to be overlooked," she concludes. We want to know: Do you have different wardrobes for work and home? Tell us in the comments what you think.
The latest findings from the Family Resources Survey (FRS) have been published by the Department for Work and Pensions. The FRS is a continuous household survey which collects information on topics such as income, housing tenure, care needs, disability, education, pension participation and more. NatCen has carried out data collection for the survey every year since it launched in 1992.
Apparently Automattic are laying off around one in six of their workforce. And I'm one of the unlucky ones.
Anybody remote hiring for a UK-based full-stack web developer (in a world that doesn't seem to believe that full-stack developers exist anymore) with 25+ years professional experience, specialising in PHP, Ruby, JS, HTML, CSS, devops, and about 50% of CMSes you've ever heard of (and probably some you haven't)... with a flair for security, accessibility, standards-compliance, performance, and DexEx?

Just had a meeting today with someone I hadn't seen the last 5 years. And she told me that she's always reading my LinkedIn posts ...
That feels strange. I would rather like to draw people away from it - but that's likely beyond my influence.

Bom dia fica aqui o desejo de uma boa Quarta-Feira, tudo a correr bem.
Good morning here is the desire of a good Wednesday, all going well.
I always wondered why most EU countries seemed to have nicer things, and better lives than most Americans, despite having lower per capita GDPs when I was younger.
I realized when I studied American #economics that it was because of income disparity.
All the GDP gets stuck at the top, and never enters the hands of most Americans, so most are overall more poor. Also military spending, and corruption has a lot to do with it.
The American Dream is more of a lottery than #work.
Many bosses across Wall Street and beyond have been doubling down on their return-to-office mandates for employees — but not all CFOs, or even CEOs, are drinking the RTO Kool-Aid.

"As Florida officials enable Trump’s mass deportation policies, lawmakers in the state are looking to children to take on some of the jobs that have typically been done by immigrants.
Making its way through the state Senate is a new law, Senate Bill 918, that aims to loosen child labor laws and allow teenagers to work overnight shifts."

@drtcombs.bsky.social Is the key factor really the amount of traffic as the article claims? Or is it the amount of time spent commuting, mixed with low-density suburban sprawl?
Imagine spending an hour or more getting ready in the morning, and an hour travelling into work, and then eight hours at work, and then another hour of unpaid overtime, and then another hour heading home.
I don't blame you after all that not wanting to spend an hour preparing and cooking dinner!
And if you're in a low-density suburb where most of the options are fast food, it's understandable if what you end up with is a Big Mac.
Especially if you're in a car, and a drive thru gets you home quicker.
I think the answer is to give more people the option to live closer to where they work, or to work from home more often.
And denser areas close to public transport tend to have a greater variety of meal options than the car-dependent outer suburbs.
So the answer isn't more roads. It's more quality housing, work, and transport alternatives.
