So I've been using my laptop with the wrong date for a while and #certificate errors meant I could only see #websites when the stars aligned.
This was the most productive I've been for a while.
So I decided to make this a #browser extension:
**Block selected websites, 90% of the time**
https://codeberg.org/dcz/webBlocker
No more mindless scrolling! No more constant Wikipedia binges! Just occasional ones. It's fine to have fun once in a while.
Anyone else automatically choose shorter string in #password generator settings when create passwords for #banks or #government #websites in case they would have some nonsense character limit (not even mentioned in manuals)?
New Tool Alert!
Introducing favicon-generator – a Python tool for coding-savvy web designers! Create multi-resolution favicons from one image using imgrszr & ImageMagick. Install easily via Kevin's Package Manager with `pkgmgr install favgen` and check docs with `favgen --help`.

Here's a growing list of #websites that are shutting down, geoblock UK users, or fighting for survival.
Hey #fedihire universe , like to work with a freelancer passionate about:
- #Django, doing it since 2007
- #JavaScript (preferably vanilla) since 1999
- and I love to speed up and optimize #databases, for speed, space, etc.
- fast, speedy, slim and very usable #websites (MPA but with SPA feel)
So I am backend and frontend experienced and love to help.
#Impact #startups preferred.

Building a graph of the Internet, one button at a time. This project crawls the links between 88x31s on the Internet, which are small badges on websites that link to other websites. It's split into three projects:
Three "strategies" by which #websites with a just cause are shooting themselves in the foot:
It both sucks and hurts to see more and more of this, over time.

today is officially *THREE* weeks until the submission deadline for Good Internet magazine!
Good Internet launches in May 2025. it's a volunteer-run, not-for-profit print and digital quarterly magazine for personal website owners and those interested in using the internet as a means of self-expression, art, and recreation.
we're looking for 1,500-4,000 word articles about anything related to that!
you could write about:
* #internet history
* personal #websites
* #accessibility on the #indieweb
* finding inspiration for a #blog
* #webdesign trends
* running from the #enshittification of the #web
* lessons or post-mortems from #webdev projects
* news or overviews of #opensource projects
if it relates to hobbies on "this side of the web," whether you call it the #smallweb or indieweb, we probably want to run it!
you can have your article as low-media (meaning only text and images) or interactive, where you code an entire webpage to help tell your story.
if you're interested in learning more, you can sign up for our email list for when we launch or you can check the submission guidelines @ https://goodinternetmagazine.com!
(please boost if you can! <3)
I was so inspired by @sophie's excellent write-up that I wrote one of my own. It mostly echoes what she said, since we share a similar history with the web, but I wanted to add my own perspective.
The true form of decentralization through the bliss of personal websites

Polish poster art is very good. #websites
boosting this to remind folks that the deadline for this is march 15, just shy of a month!
if you like #writing about the #internet, #enshittification, taking back our digital power by creating #websites, #blogs or #blogging (in the meta way!), and/or #coding and #webdev, please consider writing or coding for GOOD INTERNET magazine:
As previous post I’m in the last few days of moving about 60 #websites to a new server. Today was meant to be the last day, moving the main domain over. It went utterly tits up.
Set up the main domain and its subs on the new server, move all files over, then updated the DNS. 10mins later the server hit max load with swap file at 99.8%!
Hours trying to work out the issue found nothing, eventually reverted all DNS. Tomorrow I’ll start changing DNS entries one at a time.
When you want to #archive #websites for sharing or for later reference, better use the #WaybackMachine or #GhostArchive:
https://web.archive.org/
https://ghostarchive.org/
I've seen many use archive.today / archive.is / archive.ph, but they're using #Google #captchas to block access. This not only poses a risk of suveillance: several times this month, I was not permitted to access the referenced page, but sent through infinite loops of captchas. The problem becomes even more apparent when using a #VPN.
Browsing here and there on the web, I still see "Share it on Twitter" with Twitter logo... Not sure if website owners are aware Twitter died few years ago.
Or if they just don't assume to still be on fascist social network with a X p*rn like name...
It's a little bit similar to newspapers not assuming to talk about "X", they need to precise "X (formerly twitter)" like, I don't know, to ensure the reader understand they're not talking about a p*rn site..?
@davidho
As the #OrangeHitler Administration orders gov't #websites to "#scrub 27 #BannedWords" from all websites...
...I'd like to remind everyone that the job of "Winston Smith" in the novel "1984" was to remove words from the English #language.
The People were told it was to "streamline" language, but in fact, it was a means of CONTROL, b/c when people lack the words to express themselves, they are easier to control. #Fascism #FascistInChief
