mem but wafrn 🐕
Web devs, need your help as a hobbyist learning things

I have a gallery of my art and I want to have popups with descriptions of each to be triggered when you click on the image. What I understand that's what the modal is.

Problem I have: all the tutorials are about modals showing same content, when I try to find the opposite it's featuring bootstrap. Is it necessary or I can just get away with vanilla JS? If so, can you please share resources?

I also heard about "dialog" tag and heard that it's supposedly easier than classic modals, but I lack tutorials about it too

(When replying please be patient, I barely have any JS knowledge)

#webdev

Peter Kröner
So I can detect the default light/dark preferences using a media query and implement explict user choice by setting some sort of class on :root. I can write a selector to apply styles depending on the latter condition, and I can write a media query rule to handle the former. Is there any _one_ thing I can wrap my CSS with to handle both cases? Apply dark mode if a certain class is set, and otherwise defer to prefers-color-scheme? Precisely not as shown in the attached code?

#css #webdev

Senna 🌷
Web devs: as an aspiring web dev who is studying independently and building a portfolio, do you think it would be useful for me in terms of getting a job to get a certificate in web dev/design from a university? I have a bachelor's degree in a mostly unrelated field and I'm not going to pursue a CS degree right now.

To clarify a couple points, my independent studies and projects are going great. I've built and deployed several web apps with mysql+node+express+vanillaJS type stacks (as docker containers), and I'm currently learning react and typescript. I don't feel that getting a cert from a university would be a large boon to my education, the only reason I'm considering it is because it might help my resume stand out.

So, my question is, do you think a certificate from a well-known university would help my resume stand out while applying for web dev jobs?

Thank you for your input, this is an important decision for me to make.

#WebDev #JavaScript #programming
