“Himalayan Towers” in the Danba region of Sichuan province, China. First described in manuscripts from the 14th century, their purpose is still somewhat mysterious today. There are several hundred of them dotted around a wide area.

Tokyo Tower's crazy internal geometry at night

Catalani Tower House / Casa Torre dei Catalani.
The house is 16 metres high and was built around 1200 as a livable tower. It's got a lot of history, a legend of love and loss, some interesting family members who appear in Dante's Inferno and it's just tucked away in a little quiet backstreet.

The most spectacular residential building in Lyon #Confluence is certainly the Tour Ycone, the filigree residential tower by Pritzker Prize winner Jean Nouvel. With its soft colors and blurred, almost indistinct silhouette, the Tour Ycone nestles into the post-industrial urban landscape between the #Rhône and #Saône rivers. The tower appears to be loosely assembled from fragile scaffolding and rectangular frames. It looks as if a light breeze could bring this upwardly divergent house of cards crashing down. But a perforated, loosely attached roof forces the airy shape of the tower into a solid form.

The water tower and old buildings of Stobhill Hospital in the Springburn area of Glasgow. Designed by Thomson and Sandilands, and opened in 1904, Stobhill Hospital is one of the few remaining large complexes built as a Poor Law Hospital to care for those who could not afford to pay for treatment before the creation of the National Health Service.

The fortified church of the Holy Trinity in Hrastovlje, Slovenia.

The walls and the towers are guarding a veritable treasure, the frescoes of Janez of Kastav, including the famous Danse Macabre. And the stony defenders are still quite nervous when something wants to peek inside - even if it is just a kite.

Balgray Tower in the Springburn area of Glasgow. The original gothic villa was built for the book seller James Duncan around 1820, but this tower was added about ten years later after it have been bought by the owner of a fleet of tea clippers called Captain Breeze.
