Weird, beautiful & unusual<p>Miller's Nembrotha Nembrotha milleri is a species of sea slug, a dorid nudibranch, found in the tropical Indo-Pacific ocean. It is a specialist feeder, primarily consuming solitary tunicates (sea squirts), they are found on open reefs with plenty of sea squirts, typically at depths of 3 to 30 meters. It has a grey-green to dark green body with blackish longitudinal wrinkles running down the length of the body. Many specimen of this sea slug lack rhinopores.<br>Picture: Ivan S/ Inaturalist <br><a href="https://mindly.social/tags/weird" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>weird</span></a> <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/animals" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>animals</span></a> <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/sea" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sea</span></a> <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/seaslugs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>seaslugs</span></a> <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/nature" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nature</span></a></p>
webcubus<p>Happy birthday to me! I celebrated with a chilly, but outstanding dive at Peirce Island in Portsmouth, New Hampshire this morning. The tides and currents limit the time window for diving at this location, but it is absolutely spectacular this time of year. The nudibranchs were so dense we barely moved during out 30 minute dive. </p><p>(Many more pictures to come, these are the ones I quick processed)</p><p><a href="https://astrodon.social/tags/scubadiving" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>scubadiving</span></a> <a href="https://astrodon.social/tags/underwaterPhotography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>underwaterPhotography</span></a> <a href="https://astrodon.social/tags/nudibranchs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nudibranchs</span></a> <a href="https://astrodon.social/tags/photography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>photography</span></a> <a href="https://astrodon.social/tags/macroPhotography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>macroPhotography</span></a> <a href="https://astrodon.social/tags/seaslugs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>seaslugs</span></a> <a href="https://astrodon.social/tags/selfie" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>selfie</span></a></p>
Weird, beautiful & unusual<p>Coryphella verrucosa, is a species of sea slug, it is a sea slug with translucent body, found on either side of the northern part of the Atlantic Ocean, has 5 to 7 groups of red, light brown or maroon projections called cerrata. They are Hermaphrodite, this species can incorporate (nematocysts) from its prey into its cerrata (back projections). It adds more nematocysts when more predators are around. <br>Pic: Jeff Goddard<br><a href="https://mindly.social/tags/weird" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>weird</span></a> <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/seaslugs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>seaslugs</span></a> <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/animals" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>animals</span></a></p>
