That's about 2% of the total county population, and doesn't account for (a) small protests in small towns like the dozen people in <a href="https://montereybay.social/tags/BoulderCreek" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BoulderCreek</span></a> or (b) people were coming and going from the larger events the whole time. Bo Morgan<p>Went out to the Hands Off protest today in Santa Cruz. I heard rumors that it's the largest protest in Santa Cruz ever. They announced there were 8,000 people there.</p><p>There was lots of good signage. UC Access Now<p>"Sullivan, a PhD candidate in the environmental science department, received a “Notice of Intent to Dismiss” signed by Campus Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor (CP/EVC) Lori Kletzer on Aug. 5, 2024. This notice came after her participation in last spring’s academic student workers strike. </p><p>Jess Fournier, a UC Santa Cruz graduate worker in the feminist studies department and one of the organizers of the Jan. 23 “Hands off Summer” rally spoke about the protesters’ goal. </p><p>“The university is trying to make an example of her so that other people will be afraid to organize, afraid to talk to their coworkers, afraid to strike,” said Fournier in an interview with City on a Hill Press at the rally. “We’re trying to make sure that doesn’t happen. We’d admired those of others (including Velo Monterey rider with a $13K lightweight ebike—definitely not in our budget!). </p><p>Although a fraction of that cost—yet still far costlier than we’d ever had—a Tern NBD P8i became a necessity after covid impacted our riding ability. (In fact, for most of a yr we couldn’t really ride because we didn’t have a suitable post-covid bike.) A physical therapist who rides recommended Tern. We saw the Tern NBD—low to ground, wide step-thru, class 1 (no throttle) —at Sea Otter Classic. </p><p>But our budget couldn’t swing it.
