Although the super glue speaker "repair" was good enough at the time, and even though I've effectively retired this macbook since then, a pair of third-party speakers from AliExpress was <10€ shipped and I couldn't resist giving it a go.

Maybe the originals sounded a bit deeper — can't really compare them now — but the replacements sound quite nice on their own. I'm surprised.

Now I have a bit more incentive to repurpose this laptop as a Linux machine.

The inside of my old A1502 macbook pro, showing the right speaker already replaced by a new third-party one. I replaced both speakers, even though the original left one was fine. It was pretty easy to do. Just a few screws and lifting some cables.
Testing the speakers with the "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" theme. I'm running Ubuntu off an SD card here, as this laptop doesn't currently have an OS installed. Of course, this is a rather pointless photo as the relevant bit is the sound... 😁

I adore #Casio and #Panasonic when it comes to dependable and rugged consumer electronics. Yet...

I have this #protrek swg-100 watch since 2009 and it has been a reliable #watch but terrible wrist watch. Damn strap ripped after 6 years and a new one didn't even last 4 years.

I am done buying new straps and went full DIY on it with 3d printed TPU strap. I will be keeping this watch in emergency bag from now on.

I am so proud of myself — I changed the disc brake pads on my bike! For {growing up reasons} mechanical repair intimidates me a lot, even though I know I’m capable. So this feels really good. It only cost me $20 for new pads, and I didn’t injure myself either. 😊🚴🏽‍♂️🥳

A cracked phone screen doesn't mean you need a new phone! Instead, choose #repair or refurbishment—it's better for your wallet, and the planet.

Repairing will refresh your device, but when you do replace it, remember to trade it in to somewhere like Back Market. Instead of ending up in a landfill, it'll find a new home in someone else's pocket (and put some money in yours!). This enables phones to stay in use for 10 years, saving cost and energy.

Awesome program in Ventura County!! If your gas water heater has issues and needs to be replaced, this group will lend you a heater until you can install a heat pump water heater (!!!). Heat pump water heaters are much more efficient and save money, and use electricity instead of gas. #waterheater #repair #VenturaCounty

Very excited that my Blakey Segs have finally arrived and I can build up my boot heel again.
For anyone who've not discovered this alternative to shoe repair see photo attached. They are mini metal plates with spikes that you push into the heel part of your shoe that is wearing away.
It has helped me extend the life of my shoes for many years before they need to be thrown/resoled. These boots get through about 1 pair of segs a year but I wear them all the time and I walk a lot.

Two metal segs are in this photograph with one new one at the top of the image and an older at the bottom. They are on a dirty light blue mat. The old metal plate is noticeably thinner at the edge at the top and completely worn away at the lower part of the image. A spike that was attached to that seg can be seen to the top right which was removed from my boot heel so I could fit the new one. The new seg has a 3D shape of an orange segment but thinner, the wording blakey is very prominent on the flatter surface

Now Of Course because I'm facing a mountain of laundry and the weather is shite my dehumidifier decided to throw a hissy fit.

It's been making an ungodly noise starting just this week.

So I opened it up: and oh wow do I love well made consumer electronics. Easy to open. Consistent screws within and without. Sensible arrangement of parts inside. Cable management part of the design, with routing supports integrated into inner housing. Four different safety switches.
