It's the #DayOfZeus / Jupiter's Day / Thorsday! ⚡

"If anyone blame me because, a skilled servant of Eros, I go to the chase, my eyes armed with birdlime to catch ladies, let him know that #Zeus and #Hades and the Lord of the Sea [#Poseidon] were slaves of violent desire. If the gods are such and they bid men follow their example, what wrong do I do in learning their deeds?"

So #Zeus was overcome by love and sleep, all according to plan. He was sleeping peacefully on the crest of Mount Ida where he held his wife in his arms. Meanwhile #Hypnos flew off to tell #Hera's ally #Poseidon that he could now help the Greeks and give them victory while Zeus was still sleeping.

I feel you near though I live near no sea
Great and glorious lord of the waters
King of the ocean's wide breadth
And its unfathomable depths

You who can shake the earth with your anger
And gives so freely of your gifts
Yet has been so greatly abused by mankind
Great Poseidon who bears the sacred trident

In you I am made aware of my own fragility
In you am I made aware of my fluidity
In you I am reminded that all life is connected
In you I am made to know wonder

Great Poseidon of the sailors
Great Lord of the sea-life
In your name I pray
In your name I ask that you bless the world

It's the #DayOfHelios / Sol's Day / #Sunday! ☀️

"#Poseidon and Helios might be said to be rivals. And it may be that Helios was vexed at the boy [Nerites] travelling about in the sea and wished that he should travel among the constellations instead of being counted among the Ketea (sea monsters)."

"Agraulos [daughter of Kekrops king of #Athens] and #Ares had a daughter Alkippe. As Halirrhothios, son of #Poseidon and a nymphe named Eurtye, was trying to rape Alkippe, Ares caught him at it and slew him. Poseidon had Ares tried on the Areopagos with the twelve gods presiding. Ares was acquitted."
