Hello, friends. I've been known as "Newfangled" on Twitch and just did a re-brand of my channel. It's now called "Positive Notes" which is the name of both the channel and the show.
I'm no longer calling myself "Newfangled", but using my first given name (Dallin) as the host of my new show. So I figured I'd stop using my Newfangled account over on Universeodon and start using this account that I've had for a while but never used much.
I have been using Mastodon for years across various servers and accounts and really enjoy it. It's how social media is supposed to be. The #fediverse is amazing.
I love #music. Listening, playing musical instruments, and sharing. On my #Twitch program I share good music from my collection and good messages and stories to bring a little joy into people's lives.
I am also interested in #technology, #retro things, and #reading.
Lately I have been renewing my interest in #DigitalMinimalism and #offline things.
I am a #Christian, a disciple of Jesus Christ. I try (I fail, but I try) to emulate him - the perfect example of love, kindness, and charity.
I am interested in #nonviolence and #peacebuilding.

I like Eloquent, I use it, especially when I'm offline -- Yes, it works completely #offline !
But, I would like the startup text to disappear. Every time when I open the app, it displays this text:
“Write or paste your text here too have it checked continuously. Errors will be underlined in different colours: we will mark seplling errors with red underilnes. Furthermore grammar error's are highlighted in yellow. LanguageTool also marks style issues in a reliable manner by underlining them in blue. Its a impressively versatile tool especially if youd like to tell a colleague from over sea's about what happened at 5 PM in the afternoon on Monday, 27 May 2007.”
What's amazing is that it even detects the wrong dates, like this: “Monday, 27 May 2007 is actually Sunday, 27 May 2007”.

In addition to a distraction free desktop, I don't connect or use the browser much during focused work. I mostly get by with:

Language sources
I make my commits and connect to push them at the end of the session.

Today I went on a ~23km #hike up and down the North East #coast between #Tynemouth and #Blyth, and then back to #WhitleyBay. I can't be more accurate about how far I went because I tried an experiment: leaving my #phone at home.
I liked it, and think I'll do more #disconnected trips, but I did get a bit bored around 15km in - so I'll need to find a #music / #podcast player to take on the next long walk.

This allows 3rd parties such as LibreOffice and Firefox to connect to a local and offline instance of the LanguageTool server.

Forcing cloud, always online, subscription models have taken most of technology away from user and tied it to a company with umbilical cord.
Company can change pricing (Adobe), TOS (Unity), have server crash (Sony), or use your personal or professional data to push you out of market few years in the future.
I love offline, I love penguin and FOSS. It makes me love tech again.
